Fans have been demanding John Wick star Keanu Reeves to join the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it looks like the team behind Disney+’s Moon Knight franchise did something exciting that fans would love.
Starring Oscar Isaac, Disney+’s Moon Knight received critical praise and was widely acknowledged for featuring a superhero with dissociative disorder. While Reeves may not yet be entering the Marvel realm, John Wick seemed to have some sort of influence on the show.
Moon Knight Director Reveals John Wick’s Influence On The Marvel Series
Mohamed Diab, director of Moon Knight, spoke about needing help when it came to the execution of fight scenes in the series. He revealed to The Wrap about John Wick being his inspiration:
“I definitely used the new movement of shooting action with less cuts and how grounded it is, and I used John Wick. I used a lot of different stuff. All my movies are very grounded in reality. I would love to capture reality. If I’m going to do action, if I’m going to do comedy, if I’m going to do anything, it has to come from a grounded reality.”
Kevin Feige told the filmmaker that the show was going to be violent, to which the latter admitted taking on the challenge from the beginning:
“I’m happy that we brought some brutality because the brutality is not a gimmick to our story. It’s part of the struggle of Moon Knight.”
Introducing a new character with such complicated background could be daunting, and Diab admitted that Marvel’s decision to hire him was a huge risk:
“Hiring someone like me, they took a risk. And I used every opportunity that I had to push as much as I can, be as brutal as I can. Again, for the story, not as a gimmick, and for the drama to get dark as possible, for the look to be different.”
Moon Knight paved its own way to become a visual masterpiece that could stand on its own, separating itself from the rest of the MCU:
“A lot of people are giving me the comment that when they see the pilot, if there was no Marvel logo, you wouldn’t know that this is a Marvel show, which is something I’m so proud of.”
The massive success of the Moon Knight franchise could undoubtedly bring the Egyptian filmmaker and Marvel Studios back on the set for a potential sequel.

Oscar Isaac Teases Moon Knight’s Upcoming Second Season
While the much-anticipated sequel to Moon Knight is yet to appear on the horizon, Oscar Isaac has previously dropped hints as to the continuation of Marc Spector’s story. He told ComicBook:
“There have been some specific conversations… They were pleasant. The spilling of the details is that there’s no details. We don’t know [if there will be a second season], but we’re talking about it.”
The 44-year-old actor also gave a vague explanation for his answer:
“Truthfully, it’s about the story. Is there a story worth telling? Is it interesting? Will I feel embarrassed about it when it comes out? So, it’s just about, is there something worth pouring everything you have into.”
Isaac expressed his enthusiasm to reprise his role in the franchise, be it for a second season or a standalone movie. Moon Knight is available to stream on Disney+.
