With a certified Super Fresh rating of 97 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, The Boys Season 2 is all set to be the next big sci-fi dark comedy. But the show has recently encountered an obstacle that might stop it from attaining its goals of being counted as one of the greatest universally acclaimed shows on the planet. The obstacle is ironically its own fan base. The Boys Season 2’s release schedule has left the fans with much to desire for. To vent out their frustration, the fans are doing the only responsible thing they could within this global lock down scenario – review-bomb the show as much as possible to make Amazon pay for their crimes.
The second season of The Boys was released on the 4th of September. While the first three episodes were nothing short of spectacularly brilliant, the show did not follow the normal release schedule that the rest of Amazon Prime Originals follow. Instead of releasing all the episodes in one go, the episodes will be released under a weekly format. This was seen by many as Amazon Prime’s attempt to milk a popular show for more viewership. By releasing the show in a weekly episodic format, they are keeping up viewership ratios for their platform. This was considered by many to be a below the belt and cheap shot by Amazon Prime.
Not impressed with the show’s frustrating Network like TV Schedule format belonging to the 20th Century, fans of the show have started review-bombing The Boys Season 2. The Amazon Ratings for the Show has decreased to a mere 2.7 stars out of 5. That is a hefty price Amazon Prime was forced to pay because they got a little too greedy.

The first season of The Boys was released all in one go. As a result, viewers were able to binge-watch it in a single sitting. The second season of The Boys adapted a different format – a weekly episodic format that was how old Network shows used to run. A streaming platform resorting to a tactic of this sort was thought to be uncalled for by many fans. After the first three episodes of the show were released last Friday, the next five episodes of The Boys Season 2 are set for release every Friday, one episode each beginning from the 11th of September. We can see why it has frustrated many fans who have become accustomed to the binge-watching formula that has been popularized by online streaming platforms.
On reviewer wrote and we quote:
This is 2020…. We don’t want staggered releases of episodes!!” the particular reviewer could be heard saying. “What a shame, I was looking forward in watching it… now I’ll just skip it and wait for it to be cancelled, then I can watch them all without any interruptions.”
A few other reviewers have even gone so far as to threaten Amazon Prime with cancelling their Prime subscriptions if Amazon stuck to such cheap tactics. They are willing to move on to other streaming services that do not entertain such an annoying release format.
“NO FULL SEASON AVAILABLE?!?!?!?! I give up, where is my Netflix!” another viewer wrote.
“Not sure what moron decided this would be a good idea but it is the worst idea ever. For now I wait until the end of season and BINGE the way I prefer. If this trend continues into other shows i.e. Sneaky Pete I will cancel my prime subscription. And move on to Disney/Hulu and will just download my amazon series from other places.”
Other reviewers approached the issue more rationally and sensibly. They claim that while they liked the show and the first three episodes prove it deserves nothing short of a 5 star rating, the release schedule for The Boys Season 2 makes it impossible for them to give a full rating. It was harder for them to rate it more than one, they claim.

“Bingeing is like jumping into a lake from the mountain top and this stingy weekly episode thing is like sitting in a bathtub,” one review states. “Totally different experiences. Just to be clear, season-2 gets full 5 stars. But Amazon is now my public enemy no-1 for not dropping all the episodes at once. It feels like I am transported back to the dark middle ages, waiting for weekly episodes to arrive. I mean what do I do with all those snacks and food I got delivered to last for 12 hours? If only there was a way I could punish Amazon for this deception, oh yeah, barnes&noble, ebay, here I come…”
The show’s Amazon ratings showed just how divided and polarized the new release schedule has left The Boys’ fan base. 49 per cent of the reviewers gave The Boys a 1 star rating. 35 per cent of the reviews give it a five star rating. Everybody else lay in between.
The official synopsis for The Boys Season 2 reads:
The even more intense, more insane season two finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social-media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.

The first three episodes of The Boys Season 2 are now streaming in Amazon Prime. The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, and Erin Moriarty as Starlight/Annie January. Amazon promises to release a new episode for The Boys Season 2 every Friday.
