Robert Pattinson gained worldwide stardom playing Edward Cullen in the immensely hit franchise Twilight. In the five-installment franchise, he plays an enigmatic vampire with an unwavering devotion to his human love interest. A mesmerizing tale, the movie is filled with picturesque locations.
However, the cold, icy weather of the film shoot was often a headache for the cast, especially for Robert Pattinson, as he had to play a vampire immune from the cold. In an interview with Collider, the Batman star revealed one particularly challenging scene that he struggled shooting.
Robert Pattinson Had A Hard Time Shooting This Twilight Scene
Twilight made Robert Pattinson and the rest of the cast international stars overnight. Based on the popular book franchise by Stephanie Meyer of the same name, it featured Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner in lead roles. Shot in locations like Canada and Portland, the stars had a hard time filming in the chilly weather.
In the movie The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, there is one scene that was exceptionally demanding for Pattinson to shoot. In the scene, all three lead stars are in a tent, which is one of the most crucial scenes in the movie. Speaking about the scene, Pattinson revealed,
“The first time we did that tent scene, I was really freaking out. I don’t know why. I think it had to do with claustrophobia because we were actually shooting in a tent. I just couldn’t get it together. I kept forgetting my lines, and I was so nervous. I just wanted to punch anyone who was near me.”
The scene became even more challenging because of the cold weather and Pattinson had a hard time keeping himself together. Thankfully, his ex-girlfriend and co-star, Kristen Stewart helped calm him down despite being violently ill herself.
Kristen Stewart Helped Robert Pattinson Calm Down Despite Being Sick Herself
It is no secret that being an actor is an extremely hard job, especially when you have to shoot at odd times of the day in harsh weather conditions. This was what happened on the sets of Twilight when the cast members were shooting the iconic tent scene. During the shoot, Kristen Stewart was violently sick with stomach flu and kept puking between takes. Despite being sick, Stewart helped her co-star and then-boyfriend, Robert Pattinson calm down after having a claustrophobic attack.
The Batman star revealed in an interview,
“We did about three takes, and Kristen was supposed to be asleep on the floor, and she saw that I was freaking out. Halfway through the take, she suddenly opened her eyes and was just staring at me and kept trying to make me laugh, through the entire take. It’s the most serious scene in the whole movie. I just wanted to strangle her for the first two seconds, but then I could not stop laughing, the entire time. We got literally one take where it went right, and it was because of that. When I was trying to hold back, I guess it made me more alive or something.”
Thanks to Stewart’s support, Robert Pattinson got the part done right and the shoot wrapped up quickly much to everyone’s relief.
The Twilight franchise is available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
