Just before the end of January, fans were flabbergasted by the long-awaited announcement of James Gunn and Peter Safran about their roadmap for the upcoming DCU. And fans have been astonished by the duo’s planning and can’t wait for their plans to be implemented.
Although the projects within the mainline DCU are getting the limelight, the duo has also confirmed that the DC Elseworlds stories are also going to be a major factor in the universe moving forward. But it appears that the Snyderverse isn’t moving forward under the DC Elseworlds banner.
Peter Safran confirms Elseworlds stories will be an important factor in DC
The duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran broke the internet with their revelations of the initial projects for the first chapter of the new DCU. But apart from explaining their plans about the mainline DCU, Peter Safran stressed the importance of Elseworlds stories in the DC universe.
Apart from projects that will be involved with James Gunn’s envisioned DCU, projects including Matt Reeves’s The Batman universe, and Todd Philips’s Joker will not be hampered by the new management. And these projects along with The Black Superman project, which is being written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and comprises Michael B. Jordan, will fall under the category of DC Elseworlds. Peter Safran went on to state,
“The bar is going to be very high for projects to be outside the DCU, the Elseworlds projects. But now and then there will something that lives up to that.”
Peter Safran emphasized that the DC projects, which will not be a part of the frontline DCU, will be clearly labeled under the category of DC Elseworlds to avoid confusion among the audience. And even though The Black Superman project is moving forward outside the helms of DCU, it appears that the Snyderverse won’t be getting the same hospitality.
Snyderverse isn’t moving forward as an Elseworlds story
James Gunn and Peter Safran have expressed their thoughts on the old DCEU and how it became a mess with every passing project. So, the duo decided to scrap the old scattered universe and pull the plugs of the Snyderverse, which was on a slow spiral death since BVS.
Even though Peter Safran has clarified that Elseworlds stories will be an important factor for the DC universe. But it appears that Snyderverse doesn’t meet the standards set by the duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran for it to continue as an Elseworlds story.
So, it’s reasonable to assume that Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequel isn’t going to see the end of the tunnel. And with The Flash rebooting the entire DC universe, the struggling DCEU can finally rest and allow the James Gun-led DCU to grow in its place.
But even though some are disappointed after the axing of the Snyderverse, many believe it was a necessary evil that had to be done. But fans are excited to witness the roadmap of the DCU being implemented on the big screen and are assured that the duo of Gunn and Safran will shape the tides of DC in the correct direction.
