He continued,

“And [the MCU] is this generation’s– and maybe even the next generation’s– mythology. And when Kevin invited me on board, I said, ‘This is interesting because I haven’t gone here. I’m kind of Earth-bound. I’m terrestrial. This is something that takes place in a whole other sphere where James and the Marvel people have created their own world, their own reality.”

Sylvester Stallone then teased by stating that he had so much fun being part of this film that he returned his salary, saying,

“So I said, ‘Yeah, let me visit. Let me drop in here and see what’s up, where the future is going.’ And it was great. It got me out of the house [away] from my three daughters. And that’s why I gave them my salary back.”

The actor did a phenomenal job in the movie and reprised his role in the follow-up sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

During the media interaction, Sylvester Stallone was asked if he did any comic book research before he began filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, to which the actor replied,

“No, I didn’t, because I grew up on a different sort of superheroes, you know, like Elastic Man and things like that. They’re really horrible. Like the guy is… to me it was wonderful. And so this one, I wanted to go in there, you know, clean slate and just do what the director wanted done, and so now I’m starting to catch up on it, but I think this kind of being naïve allows you to be directed in a direction they want you to go, without any preconceived ideas.”

James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 boasts a stellar cast ensemble featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell. The movie earned critical acclaim and praise for its over-the-top visuals, extraordinary direction, and actors’ performances.
