No amount of stardom can immune someone from online hate and among all A-listers, it’s safe to say that Marvel star Chris Pratt has experienced the worse of it. Despite being an integral part of the MCU and the lead of one of MCU’s most beloved and critically acclaimed franchises, the actor has often encountered immense backlash from the internet from time to time.
But despite the unreal amount of backlash that he has received over the last several years, especially due to his religious beliefs, the actor has remained unfazed and still stands tall.
Chris Pratt remains unaffected by the online hate against his religious beliefs
From his religious beliefs to his inclusion in the Mario movie, Chris Pratt has been ridiculed by the internet for many insignificant reasons over the years. Even though this hasn’t impacted his professional career and the actor is still moving strong and has been attached to major Hollywood franchises, the hate train against him keeps on moving. Reflecting on this situation, Pratt expressed that despite the absurd amount of hate he has been dealing with, especially due to his religious beliefs, he remains unfazed by it. He said,
“I sure do [get criticized] but that’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know? ‘If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. ’ That’s John 15:18 through 20. That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too.”
Following the extreme hate that the actor has been dealing with over the past few years and even being branded as the Worst Chris in the MCU, several celebrities have come forward to his support. Among these celebrities, including James Gunn, Joe Rogan, and Mark Ruffalo, Gunn has been the most vocal about his support for Pratt and spoke out against the online hate against him.
James Gunn once expressed his distaste for the online hate against Chris Pratt
James Gunn is no new to online hate and has experienced his fair share of online backlash, which even led to his brief exit from the Guardians franchise before getting rehired by Disney. The director who is famous for bringing the outcasts of Marvel into the limelight through his brilliant storytelling, has been pretty supportive of Chris Pratt after he was bullied by the internet. Gunn expressed his frustration with online hate for the actor by stating,
“It absolutely infuriates me. Chris is unspeakably kind to people; he goes out of his way to help kids. He’s an especially loving father. And there’s a lot of stuff that people have literally just made up about him — about his politics, about who he is, about what he believes of other people, you know?”
Despite the unreal hate, Chris Pratt has kept himself busy in climbing the ladder to the top and his recent MCU entry is being regarded as one of the best Post-Endgame MCU films by the fans.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently running in theatres.
