Although she felt remorse for the way her son acted, Carolyn Smith couldn’t feel more proud of her son for winning the Oscar that day.
“I know how he works, how hard he works. I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting. When I heard the name, I was just, ‘Yes!’”

In an interview, writer-producer Dean Devlin talked about how his original plan was to create two sequels to the 1996 film. Devlin revealed that his original plan included the audience getting to know the aliens in a more intricate way.
The plan failed, however, when Will Smith decided to drop out of the franchise and did not even reprise his role in the 2016 film Independence Day: Resurgence. Reports of a lesser pay were abound the internet but Devlin revealed that Smith was actually afraid of doing sequels.
“He was generally worried about doing sequels,” Devlin said. “I don’t know what was going on with him, but ultimately he wouldn’t do it. It was a huge disappointment.”
During the time of planning, Smith had already encountered a bad experience when he starred alongside his son Jaden Smith in the 2013 movie After Earth. With failures and promises, Independence Day, starring Will Smith is available to stream on Starz Apple TV Channel.
