"That’s not who you thought it was": Samuel L. Jackson and Emilia Clarke Have Sad News For Avengers Fans Ahead of Secret Invasion

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon be coming out with their Nick-Fury centric miniseries, Secret Invasion. Having taken his eye patch out, Samuel L. Jackson’s character has clearly suffered a lot these past years. He is back to deal with a world that has been taken over by the Skrulls.

As a radicalized group of Skrulls plan on causing havoc on Earth, fans might be wondering whether the Avengers or what remains of them, will join Nick Fury to defeat the enemies. However, Samuel L. Jackson has made it quite clear that this fight has no place for the Avengers. So why does Nick Fury want to get his own hands dirty instead of calling for a favor from his superhero friends?

As the shape-shifting Skrulls feel that Nick Fury didn’t stand firm on his promise of providing them a place to live, they are now planning an attack on Earth, disguising themselves as political figures. It’s up to Fury to deal with the mess as this time, the superheroes aren’t stepping in. In a conversation with USA Today, Samuel L. Jackson stated that Fury wants to solve things without superhuman help.

“Nick comes back having lost whatever power he had before, so we tried to solve things without being too superhuman.”

In another interview with Empire Magazine, Jackson stated that there is a “very good explanation” for why Fury does not want to ask for help from the Avengers. MCU debutant Emilia Clarke, and veteran Cobie Smulders also pointed out the show revolves around “the idea of ‘who can you trust?’” Smulders stated,

“You could be talking to be somebody you have a very close relationship with and then you find out that that’s not who you thought it was.”

Jackson even talked about the dilemma of it all to Vanity Fair stating that people want the Avengers, but the character is dead set on not doing so. When asked why, Jackson stated, “You’ll find that out. There’s a very good reason he’s holding back.”

Taking all of this into account, we could assume that Fury worries about getting Skrulls packaged as Avengers instead of the real deal. Whatever may be the case, they sure make it sound as if Secret Invasion is going to be one hell of a watch!

Secret Invasion Has a Dark Tone

The upcoming miniseries will take on a much darker tone as compared to other MCU series. You could say that Secret Invasion is the antonym of Ms. Marvel. As seen in the trailer, the series is going to be more psychological, gritty, and full of drama. Smulders spoke about the tone that’s going to be set in the series stating,

“This is a darker show. We’re going to get deeper into the characters. We’re going to see them in new ways, and it’s going to be an exciting thriller, and you’re never going to know who people are. Are they a Skrull? Are they human? It’s going to be a bit of a guessing game.”

The series will certainly show a different and more vulnerable side of the strong founder of the Avengers. He has a lot of weight on his shoulders and he’s looking to make things right, all on his own.

Secret Invasion releases on Disney+ on June 21.
