Being in the film industry for over four decades, Sharon Stone has seen it all. Taking a career shift from modeling to acting was certainly not easy for her, but she still continued pursuing the same with every small role she could land. The actress finally had the breakthrough she was waiting for after starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 film Total Recall. Her performance in the movie made Paul Verhoeven cast her as the lead in his 1992 film Basic Instinct against Michael Douglas.
However, despite all that, she was still not able to gain the ‘star’ title, as the Total Recall actress recently shared that no one was willing to lend her a dress for her first Oscar ceremony in 1992.
Sharon Stone Recalls Attending Her First Oscars
Over the past decades of her Hollywood career, Sharon Stone has presented epic red-carpet looks. She recently did the same during The Hollywood Reporter‘s ‘Raising Our Voices’ Luncheon, as she wowed everyone with her bold red suit, sequin scarf, and 3D floral applique piece.
However, it was not always the same for her, as she has recently shared that she had a hard time getting a dress for her first Academy Awards in 1992. During her appearance on the Table for Two podcast, she shared that no one was willing to lend her a dress for the ceremony.
“When I first got invited to the Oscars, right before ‘Basic Instinct’ came out, the movie hadn’t come out, so no one would lend me a dress,” Stone said. However, after the film’s release, she was also offered to present Best Sound Effects Editing Award with Antonio Banderas.
But the situation was still the same for her. The Silver actress shared that she was not able to afford a dress as she did not have any money. And despite all that she was determined to attend the ceremony and finally bought her dress and did everything herself for her very first Oscars ceremony.
Sharon Stone’s Look For Her First Oscars
After she was unable to get a dress for her first Oscar ceremony, Sharon Stone finally decided to buy a dress for herself. Considering that it was not on the same level as the other Hollywood stars’ looks, she did feel intimated walking down the red carpet.
“All these people in their $40,000 or $50,000 dresses and I went and bought a Betsey Johnson polyester jumpsuit because that was the best I could do.”
The Catwoman actress shared that she had to do everything from her hair to her makeup herself. Unlike her experience getting ready for the ceremony, she had a good time during the event. She told the host of the podcast that she was seated right behind Anthony Hopkins, who addressed her by “[putting] his hands together and [putting] them over his head like a champion.” And Stone was pleased to know that he had seen her work.
