Fans are split between excitement and skepticism for Marvel’s upcoming project, The Marvels. The sequel to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is set to hit US theaters on November 10, 2023. In this movie, Carol Danvers, played by Larson, will team up with Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan.
The Marvels reportedly have a shorter runtime than the usual Marvel movies, and several scenes were cut from the script as per studio decision. One such scene involved a Marvel comics hero intended to be played by a well-known star.
The Scrapped Role From Brie Larson’s The Marvels
Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was the first female-led superhero movie to cross the $1 billion mark. The Marvels aims to replicate the success of its predecessor, but Marvel Studios finds itself in a frenzy due to the poor reception of recent MCU outings. The Studio is unfairly prioritizing some projects over others, and cost-cutting measures have affected The Marvels, possibly influenced by the negative talk surrounding the film.
In a new update, a Twitter account under the handle @MyTimeToShineH reported that a big star appearance in The Marvels was scrapped by the studio. According to the tweet, the movie originally featured a superhero from Marvel comics who was supposed to play an integral part in the plot, but would then be killed off. The account also reported that Clive Owen and George Clooney were considered for the part.
Further updates about the identity of the hero are unknown at this time, but fans have begun speculating. They have a few guesses about the hero including Genis-Vell and Richard Rider Nova.
Before Brie Larson’s The Marvels, George Clooney Was Considered For Another Marvel Role
As the interesting news about George Clooney being considered for a role in Brie Larson’s The Marvels comes out, it is also notable that The American actor almost played another Marvel role. In the early 2000s, Marvel approached Clooney to play Nick Fury in a standalone movie for the SHIELD director. The Ocean’s Eleven actor even read the script and liked it.
However, during his research for the role, Clooney read some of the comics and one comic involved a gruesome scene where Nick Fury chokes a person with another man’s intestine. This disturbing scene led the Batman & Robin actor to drop the project. George Clooney has recently reprised his Batman role in the latest DCEU movie, The Flash.
While speculations for the scrapped scene continue, it has been confirmed that the trio of female superheroes will face off against a female supervillain in The Marvels. Zawe Ashton was roped in to play the villainous Kree warrior Dar-Benn.
Fans will have to wait and see whether The Marvels will serve as a saving grace for the Marvel Studios, which has produced some subpar projects lately.
