“That was dropped pretty quickly”: Shazam 2 Director Reveals He Wanted Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck Cameos That Was Refused by WB While Movie Struggles at 55% RT Rating

Well, seems like DCU (formerly DCEU) is at it again. With confusing cameos by Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, people including the director of Shazam! Fury of the Gods is confused regarding what is happening in their cinematic universe and which actors are remaining with them.

In recent talks, the director of the newly launched DC movie David F. Sandberg revealed that he initially wanted Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck to cameo in their on-screen roles of Superman and Batman. This, in turn, was rejected by Warner Bros. Discovery since it would be too chaotic for the people (especially with broken contracts and no surety of the superhero in the DCU).

Warner Bros. Discovery Rejected Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck’s Cameo

When the DC Studios came under new management, the people watched in surprise as to what the DCU will be like. In what appeared to be a confusing time when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, there was confusion aplenty as to which actors will remain for the future of DCU projects and movies. It seems that the director of the newly launched movie was also wondering whether he could have a cameo role of some notable actors from the DCU.

When it was time for Henry Cavill to depart, the people mourned the loss of another Superman from the DCU. After James Gunn announced the new lineup of movies and series, people noticed the absence of Ben Affleck. The question that everyone felt was unanswered was also asked by the director of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. In a tweet, it was reported that David F. Sandberg had asked the higher-ups at DCU for a cameo from Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck as Superman and Batman respectively. According to the tweet, the people at Warner Bros. Discovery refused the idea.

As per the tweet, it would have been a chaotic storm if Warner Bros. Discovery had indeed given them the rights but would have had to remove the actors later from their cinematic universe. With Shazam! Fury of the Gods currently sitting at an average of 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems like the cameos would have uplifted the scores a bit higher.

In a recent controversial interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Gone Girl actor seemed to casually attack James Gunn’s way of running things. The actor even went as far as to say no if Gunn’s DCU were to ever approach him to direct a DC movie.

After Henry Cavill’s departure from the DCU, it seems that Ben Affleck is also not interested in being a part of the “Gunn DC” if things were to continue going Gunn’s way. Good thing that the duo of Cavill and Affleck did not appear in a cameo role in Shazam 2.

With an average score of 6.9/10 on IMDB and 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Zachary Levi starrer Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently screening in theaters across the world.
