If a lot of young folks in the 90s were lovestruck and sleepless, the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan starrer Sleepless In Seattle is to blame. The film was a dreamy and sweet romantic comedy that made everyone want to find their own similar love story thanks to Hanks and Ryan’s chemistry. Sleepless in Seattle went on to gain cult status and is still one of the most-watched films during romantic holidays like Valentine’s Day.
With the love and good vibes that the film became famous for, it is possible to assume that the cast and crew also had a perfect working experience. But Tom Hanks confessed that it was quite the contrary for him owing to a few creative differences between the Oscar winner and writer Nora Ephron.
Tom Hanks Was Ill-Tempered During The Filming Of Sleepless In Seattle.
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan became everyone’s favorite couple in the 90s after the actors starred in two romantic films namely Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail. The former became one of the iconic love stories which featured a widower with a son played by Tom Hanks, who has a second chance at finding love. While the film had everyone swooning over the two lead stars’ chemistry, the experience in reality for Hanks, was far from perfect. Speaking of the creative disputes he had with writer Nora Ephron, the Cast Away star said that the direction of the narrative did not find favor with him.
“When we were working on the rehearsals for it, I realized that one of the things that was driving me nuts about the project is that Nora and Delia Ephron, who helped on the screenplay, are—-sisters, but they are also mothers. It was a movie about a father. And I said, ‘You guys are the wrong gender to understand what’s going on in this scene between me and my son.’”
Despite heated discussions and differences, Nora Ephron finally understood Tom Hanks’ train of thought about wanting to make a film about the father-son relationship. This led to humanizing Hanks’ character and making him more vulnerable which then made his romance with Meg Ryan’s character more relatable and organic.
Tom Hanks Reunites With Forrest Gump Team For Here
Nearly 30 years after Forrest Gump, co-stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are reuniting for a new film. The pair is set to star in Here which will be directed by Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis. The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel by Richard McGuire and is said to be a breathtaking journey through time and memory. The story is centered around a place in New England and deals with love, loss, struggle, hope, and legacy between couples and families over generations.
The interesting feature of the film will be the “digital de-aging” of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Zemeckis elaborated on the reasons for using this AI technology and said that he wanted a seamless transition of Hanks and Wright’s characters into their younger selves which will make the experience a realistic one.
Here is set to release in 2024.
