Mel Gibson’s 2002 release Signs
The film Signs was director M. Night Shyamalan’s one of most successful movies of all time. The supernatural drama was a commercial and critical hit. It was a science fiction horror film that focuses on the story of a former Episcopal priest named Graham Hess (played by Mel Gibson) who discovers a series of crop circles in his cornfield, which is connected to the presence of extraterrestrial life. After discovering the crop circles on his farm, Graham and his family experience some weird events and finally realize the extraterrestrial invasion. At first, they are completely clueless but Graham eventually finds out that aliens can be killed by using water.
The star cast comprised Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, and Abigail Breslin. It was a box office hit and grossed $408 million against a budget of $72 million.
Fan reveals an unbelievable plothole in Mel Gibson’s Signs
M. Night Shyamalan’s film was one of the best movies released in 2002, which kept the audience gripped to their seats till the end. It was a tense story with a shocking plot twist. The film is praised for its excellent performances, visuals, cinematography, and story with an atmosphere of quiet horror. However, there is one major plot hole in the movie.
As per the story, the plot twist of the film was when Graham realized that the aliens had an adverse reaction to water, leading to their death. A fan video clip reveals that aliens’ water fear is a major problem as it makes no sense for them to invade a planet that is majorly made of water.
A fan commented,
“That isn’t even my biggest qualm about the aliens being “allergic” to water. It’s not just that there is liquid water covering 66-75% of Earth, or even that there’s precipitation most of the time. The biggest problem is that there’s HUMIDITY IN THE AIR! The aliens should’ve started disintegrating or whatever the second they opened their ship doors. That single aspect of the film makes me go insane every time I remember it!”
Another fan noted that the plothole in Signs could be removed, if the aliens were allergic to fluoride.
