Back in 2020, the King Arthur star appeared on Radio Andy for promoting The Gentlemen. Hunnam mentioned he was sort of indifferent to marriage, and wasn’t too interested despite his long-term girlfriend Morgana McNelis being very eager to get hitched.

“She does not feel the same. She’s very eager. I’ll do it because it’s important to her but I don’t have any great romantic feelings toward it.”

However, he was soon forced to take his words back when he realized his stupid comments had hurt McNelis’ feelings.

“I know I gotta say, that really hurt my girlfriend’s feelings and I really regretted saying that. I actually didn’t mean it at all, it was, frankly, just stupid s— I said in the heat of the moment.”

Hunnam responded in a separate video that he had made the comments without thinking and his baseless comments were a result of him doing continuous interviews (85!) over three days. Comparing the situation to when one feels a bit lost and not thinking about where your true feeling lie, Charlie Hunnam admitted he realized afterward how distasteful his comments were.

Charlie Hunnam explained further how his comments did not imply he hates marriages, but rather doesn’t consider the official sanction from the government important or even necessary when you have already been together for so long. Admitting that family is very important to him, Hunnam does plan to get married soon.

“I was always a late bloomer. I’ve left it for a long time. Everything is great and we were just pursuing other interests in our lives but we’re certainly coming up to that time where we’ve got to start switching it up.”

Charlie Hunnam also mentioned how marriage doesn’t make him nervous at all as at that point the two were already in a very happy and contented 14-year-long relationship.

While Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis haven’t tied the knot yet, Hunnam would soon be appearing in Zack Snyder‘s Rebel Moon, set to release on 22 December 2023.
