Excitement quickly turned into disappointment after Rockstar announced the Red Dead Redemption port for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Fans of the beloved classic were hoping for at least a remaster and, at most, a full remake. Despite numerous leaks, it turns out that it is just a port for the PS4 and Switch, priced at a whopping $50.
Many have been incredibly vocal about their dissatisfaction, and the Take Two CEO seems to be doubling down on the game’s pricing. But that has only added more fuel to the fire, as fans fail to see how such a simple port of a decade old game, even when packaged with its DLC, can justify such a price.
Take Two CEO Doubles Down on Red Dead Redemption Port’s Price
The CEO of Take Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, was asked after the company’s earnings call why they priced the game as such. The game is still accessible on the Xbox Series X|S due to backwards compatibility, which makes the pricing all the more confusing. Strauss responded saying that the pricing is ‘commercially accurate.’
That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it.
Hannah Sage, EVP of Finance, pointed out that the new bundle also includes the famed Undead Nightmare DLC, hence the $50 price tag. Strauss Zelnick further added that he thinks it is a great value for consumers because of this.
A great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it’s a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers.
When asked about a potential PC release, one that fans have been waiting to get for over a decade, Zelnick just said that he leaves these major game announcements to the developers.

Ports, Remasters or Remakes?
It’s no secret that the gaming industry has started taking advantage of all three of these. While they should be considered great ways to play older titles, it seems to many that companies are taking big advantage of the power of nostalgia. When asked about his views on the subject, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick responded,:
It depends on the vision that the creative teams have for a title, and in the absence of having a powerful vision, for something that we would do with a title, we might bring it in its original form, we’ve done that, and in certain instances we might remaster or remake, so it really depends on the title and how the label feels about it, the platform, and what we think the opportunity is for consumers.
Many have vented their frustration regarding this whole Red Dead Redemption fiasco. Many think that this should not have been a simple port. Worst of all, similar to The Last of Us Part 1, the Red Dead Redemption port is removing multiplayer, which provided hundreds upon hundreds of hours of entertainment. We’ll have to wait and see how well this game actually performs on the newer hardware, and what the changes are, if there are any.
