Sylvester Stallone is a Hollywood icon who has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. Stallone has been successful in delivering some of the most successful franchises including Rambo, and The Expendables. Another such blockbuster franchise was Rocky. The Rocky franchise has been making headlines for Stallone’s recent comments regarding the Creed franchise, particularly Creed III, which is directed by Michael B. Jordan. Stallone has been candid about his reluctance to participate in any more projects, due to his ongoing rights issues with the makers. However, he has not ruled out appearing in another Creed movie if certain conditions are met.
Sylvester Stallone Wants Right to The Franchise To Be A Part Of Another Creed Movie
The Creed franchise is a spin-off of the Rocky franchise, with Michael B. Jordan playing Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, a former rival of Rocky Balboa. The first Creed movie was released in 2015, with the franchise being a critical and commercial success. Now, the third installment of the Creed franchise has been released, with Michael B. Jordan as both its lead actor and director. Sylvester Stallone has shared that he didn’t participate in the movie due to his current issues involving the rights of the franchise. The Expendables star revealed that he is not against starring in future movies, but only if the rights of the franchise are shared.
The Rambo star revealed that the producer of the franchise, Irwin Winkler, will not release the stocked rights, as he discussed the progress of his case in an interview. Stallone noted that despite his efforts to make the franchise successful in the long run, he is still devoid of his deserved rights.
“No. It’s never gonna happen. It was a deal that was done unbeknownst to me by people that I thought were close to me and they basically gave away whatever rights I would have had. At the time I was so excited to be working and I didn’t understand this is a business. Who knew Rocky would go on for another 45 years? I’ve never used one [line of dialogue] from anyone else — and the irony is that I don’t own any of it. The people who have done literally nothing, control it.”
Sylvester Stallone Wanted To Make Creed III Different
The Expendables star revealed that he wished to make Creed III differently. Stallone revealed that he could have taken the movie in a better direction, only if he had been a part of it. The Rambo star emphasized that he is a sentimentalist, and shared that the third installment of the Creed franchise reflects the much darker side of the story, which he would have surely avoided.
“That’s a regretful situation because I know what it could have been. It was taken in a direction that is quite different than I would’ve taken it. It’s a different philosophy — Irwin Winkler’s and Michael B. Jordan’s. I wish them well, but I’m much more of a sentimentalist. I like my heroes getting beat up, but I just don’t want them going into that dark space. I just feel people have enough darkness.”
Stallone’s comments about the direction of the Creed franchise have grabbed a lot of attention from the public and media. Michael B. Jordan starrer Creed III was released on March 3, 2023, and will soon be available on streaming platforms.
