Since James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the first chapter of their rebooted DCU slate, casting speculations for the new universe have been making headlines. But particularly people are focused on the first movie, Superman: Legacy, which has officially cast David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

While it appears hard for a few fans to accept someone other than Henry Cavill for Superman, David Corenswet appears to be the carbon copy of the actor. Having somewhat similar looks and a close sense of humor, Corenswet is preparing for his role as the titular superhero. Claiming to be a fan of Cavill’s Man of Steel, the young actor is willing to add a hint of himself to the character.

Manifesting the role of Superman since 2019, David Corenswet finally became the titular superhero in James Gunn’s rebooted DCU slate. Claiming his biggest acting goal was “definitely to play Superman”, Corenswet officially bagged the role of Superman in the upcoming DC movie Superman: Legacy

Discussing with Entertainment Weekly, David Corenswet previously mentioned his desire to play the Kryptonian while promoting his 2019 Netflix limited series Hollywood. Popularly known for his 2022 horror flick, Corenswet officially replaced Henry Cavill, to appear alongside Rachel Brosnahan as the new star in the summer of 2025.

The official announcement came months after Henry Cavill abruptly departed from DC Studios in December 2022. Reportedly having disagreements after new bosses, James Gunn and Peter Safran, opted to shake things up, Cavill chose to announce his exit, thus constituting the younger incarnation of the Man Of Steel.

David Corenswet Is A Fan Of Henry Cavill’s DC Movies

Being quite aware of his shockingly similar looks to that of Henry Cavill, David Corenswet is more than prepared to do justice to the role. Himself claiming to be a fan of Cavill, who played Superman in four DC movies directed by Zack Snyder, Corenswet mentioned his opinion of the actor and his movies.

Drawing comparisons to Henry Cavill, the young actor mentioned, “It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me”. Yearning for the titular role for years, David Corenswet stated, “But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman.” 

I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic” David Corenswet stated.

Claiming to be a fan of Cavill’s portrayal of Superman, Corenswet mentioned trying something different for himself. Willing to create a new and upbeat Superman, the actor appears as the perfect choice for James Gunn’s rebooted slate. Since even Gunn mentioned, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has…It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion” 

Thus, teasing the audiences back in 2019, about his dream to play Superman, David Corenswet finally manifested his role. Marking the biggest project of his career, Corenswet prepares for Superman: Legacy.
