And rightly so, as there are some changes that can be seen since the takeover, as Gunn being the representative of the studio revealed some of the upcoming movies on the line- among which there is a new Superman movie, Superman: Legacy, to be directed by Gunn himself.

Henry Cavill is not Clark Kent anymore, that is certain. And as per reports, Warner Bros and DC Films have been busy for months finding a new Superman for the future of the DC Universe. With James Gunn, the studios have gone through the audition tapes sent from several actors, and finally, they might have their desired Superman to replace Cavill.

In recent news, as per Deadline, the in-person first round of screen tests for Superman: Legacy is to happen very soon. X-Men alum Nicholas Hoult, Hollywood actor David Corenswet, and Greyhound actor Tom Brittney are expected to test for the new Superman with Peter Safran and Gunn, around Father’s Day weekend or possibly the coming Monday or Tuesday.

Sex Education star Emma Mackey, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fame, and Golden Globe-winning actor Rachel Brosnahan, and Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor are reported to be tested for Lois Lane. However, the source said that the test deals are yet to close as they are still in the negotiation process.

Looking at the considered actors for Superman or Lois Lane, it is safe to assume that DC heads are looking at fresh Superman casts in place of Cavill as Clark Kent and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. DC has not commented yet about the second round of screen tests.

There’s not much on the table as of yet as Gunn also revealed that he will refrain from speaking about any audition activities, let alone about the movie. The writer-director of the film took to social media saying that he will keep it quiet about the auditioning actors but shared a piece of vital information.

“For all of you asking, I would never comment on who is or isn’t AUDITIONING for a role. That’s the actor’s business only & isn’t something I’d make public unless they did it first after the fact (like @GlennHowerton or @ZacharyLevi having auditioned for Star-Lord & being top choices),” Gunn wrote.

However, the director also revealed that “For now, only one person has been CAST in Superman: Legacy, and it isn’t any of the regular players in the Superman world.”

Further, in a special official announcement, Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed the first brief plot synopsis for the film that reflected the new Superman to be an embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way.

“Superman Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned,” the statement read.

More updates from the film will shed light on the development of the film as Superman: Legacy is going to be the first movie of a new DC era, spearheaded by Gunn and Safran, after the last movie of the earlier phase The Flash.

DC’s The Flash will hit theaters on 16 June 2023.
