James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad will not be the only project to feature the Peacemaker and his adventures. The TV Spin-Off is all set to dive deep into the very origin stories of the man who would one day become a member of the Suicide Squad. HBO Max’s plans to make an eight episode Peacemaker show would also have James Gunn’s blessings. As a matter of fact, James Gunn is also a part of the project. The Suicide Squad director will write all the episodes for the Peacemaker show. He will also end up directing a few of them.

DC Comics is moving very quickly into the digital streaming place. They have chosen HBO Max to be their partner in this domain. Marvel has Disney’s Disney+ for this. It was only natural that DC Films went along with one of Disney+‘s up and coming rival. The Peacemaker show is only one of the many shows that will be headed to the new digital streamer. Multiple DC Shows like Stargirl, Doom Patrol, Titans, and Harley Quinn have already become a part of the service. Many other DC Shows currently in the pipeline will probably head to HBO Max as well in the near future.

James Gunn and The Suicide Squad Producer Peter Safran have been hired as Executive Producers for the Peacemaker TV Show. John Cena will also be Co-Executive Producer. Safran’s The Safran Company and James Gunn’s Troll court Entertainment will be the production companies who will work along with Warner Brothers Television. Thankfully Peacemaker is scheduled to begin production in early 2021 itself. Coincidentally that is before James Gunn starts work on the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Peacemaker is not an original DC Comics character. It was the flagship superhero of a DC Comics rival called Charlton Comics. The character was created by the legendary Pat Boyette and Joe Gill. First making an appearance in the Fightin’ 5 series, Peacemaker is a diplomat on a warpath. He will protect peace at all costs, even if it means he will have to kill, murder, and maim. The series will probably explore the origin story of Christopher Smith, the son of a Nazi Death Camp Commander. After regretting from his family benefitting from something as grave as the Holocaust, he dedicates his life to being the Peacemaker. Smith later founds the Pax Institute. With his resources, the Peacemaker mostly fights tyrants and warlords in distant lands.

Casey Bloys, the Chief Content Officer at HBO, was all praises about James Gunn’s role in the new HBO Max series. He says and we quote:

“James Gunn has the unique ability to create an expansive universe while also bringing to life the soul and wit of each character. We look forward to a deep dive into the world of Peacemaker.”

James Gunn, Director of The Suicide Squad and Executive Producer for the new Peacemaker Show adds:

“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”
