The technology used to craft the photorealistic visuals of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

In order to achieve the photorealistic visuals for the sequel to 2019’s reboot Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the developers for Modern Warfare II took extreme measures from the production’s get-go. The FPS involved a plethora of methods like photogrammetry and performance capture in order to make the game more immersive and attain perfection in their quest to achieve hyperrealism.

The Photogrammetry process involves taking images of an object from several angles and stitching them together to provide a 3D replica of the object. This technique was also used in scanning and crafting the wear and tear in the costumes to immerse the player in the story, as Insider explains, “This process only looks haphazard, story matters”. And thanks to the developers’ immense passion for the project, they were able to push the boundaries of realism when it comes to video games.
