Once upon a time, the federation of the mutant leader Storm and the Black Panther was one of Marvel comic’s most famous couples. The Storm and Wakanda’s protector have a long history together, and while they are no longer romantically involved, their relationship is far from over.

Marvel Studios now has the opportunity to bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside the Avengers, but a recent quote implies that their arrival may be delayed. Following Disney’s massive acquisition of 20th Century Fox, MCU fans have been wondering when the franchise will introduce the popular mutants who have been kept apart from Marvel Studios’ narrative.
Nate Moore, the producer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, discussed the possibility of X-Men’s Storm visiting Wakanda, as well as which other Marvel characters he’d like to see appear. Namor and his underwater kingdom Talokan are being introduced into the MCU in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ryan Coogler had intended to tease Namor in Black Panther, but the plan was scrapped. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be inspired by the comics, with the two nations clashing.
Marvel Studios Vice President Nate Moore discussed when the MCU might start including its own version of the X-Men in an interview. When asked if Storm would appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he said the character’s “relationship with Wakanda in publishing is pretty interesting.”
“Well, Storm’s relationship with Wakanda in publishing is pretty interesting. Obviously, we might be a few years out from the X-Men, so I’m not sure we’re there yet. Who else from Wakanda have we not introduced? I mean, there’s a pretty deep bench, actually. And especially, I think, Ta-Nehisi’s run introduced a lot of key characters that would be fun to export. Even characters like Vibraxas, which are more Fantastic Four characters. But yeah, it’s a pretty deep bench. I think there’s a lot more stories to tell on Wakanda for sure.”
Other popular Marvel characters with ties to Wakanda include Storm from the X-Men. Storm plays an important role in Wakanda in the comics, even ruling the country as Queen with her then-husband T’Challa.
When will Marvel Studios introduce X-Men in the MCU?
The MCU has gradually introduced Mutants, which will most likely culminate in the X-Men later on. Marvel has also teased the upcoming superhero team by including the theme from the 1990s X-Men animated series in Ms. Marvel, Professor X in Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness, and Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
As stated in previous interviews, it appears that the MCU is still some time away from delivering a story focused on mutants as a group. This is most likely due to a report that Marvel Studios would be required to bring back the old Fox actors in any project before 2025, which resulted in Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor X in Doctor Strange 2, though these characters will be used in some capacity sooner.
Deadpool 3, the MCU’s first mutant-centric film, will be released in theatres on November 8, 2024, starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.
