The Creed star Michael B. Jordan made history with the third film in the franchise. Garnering tremendous critical acclamation not only for his acting but also for his debut as a director. Speaking on this in an interview he revealed just how much he enjoyed this new role even with its challenges. According to him, it matters more to him the reason for his taking up this challenge than the result.
Giving a shoutout to the people of color working in the industry, he explained that he strives to do more for his extended community as a person of color himself. He also mentioned that he finally got the directing bug after being in the driver’s seat for the first time. However, according to him, although he will be looking forward to directing more in the future, for now, he has his plate full with hectic schedules. One of which, is none other than, Methuselah, directed by Danny Boyle.
Michael B. Jordan on his experience as a director
Speaking in an interview about the movie, Michael B. Jordan mentioned that he wanted to bring something new to the audience for the third film of the franchise. As it already has its moments of past reminiscence dating back to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky, he also wanted to portray fresh fighting styles in his movie to not get repetitive. Along with using IMAX cameras to shoot the fights, which is a first for any sports genre movie, he also looked into Japanese anime for inspiration.
Fans of the shounen anime genre are aware of the ferocity the fights bring to the screen. As such, its heavy influence on Creed III is extremely apparent. He noted while accepting the Melvin Van Peebles Trailblazing Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema and Television, “Directing my first film tested me in more ways than I knew was possible.” Portraying his immense respect for Peebles, he mentioned that what drives him forward is the legendary actor, writer, and director’s pursuit of overcoming obstacles as a filmmaker.

Michael B. Jordan to take up Methuselah from Tom Cruise
Although he did indeed get the directing bug, after his debut as a director, he mentioned that when he will be directing again is still unknown. He explained in an interview, “I’m still kind of wrapping up this chapter right now.” According to him, it has been a transformative experience, “as a man, as a director, as an actor, as a son, as a brother.” This is kind of a bummer for fans of Jordan and the Creed franchise as they were hoping to see another masterpiece coming to life before their eyes.
However, he mentioned that for now though, he wants to focus more on acting, which is quite fair as he is currently one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood. He is especially interested in his upcoming movie Methuselah, a Danny Boyle direction, with which Warner Bros is hoping to birth a new franchise all on its own.
It should be mentioned that it was initially planned for Tom Cruise to be playing the 969-year-old survivalist. However, after those plans were botched, the Biblical epic inevitably went to Michael B. Jordan given his soaring popularity. Rest assured, with the hype the movie is garnering, it seems that the movie is going to be a treat for the eyes, to say the least.
