One such hoax occurred during the production of a crucial sequence in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, in which Harrison Ford’s character, Indiana Jones, is supposed to be beaten as punishment.
What was meant to be a humorous complement to the day’s events quickly turned into an unpleasant occurrence. While the cameras were rolling, Spielberg had planned a surprise that completely blindsided Harrison Ford.
Steven Spielberg took advantage of Ford’s concentration on the flogging sequence to add excitement. Barbra Streisand and Carrie Fisher, two surprise visitors, wore costumes that added an air of surprise to their entry onto the set.
Singing phenomenon and respected actress Barbra Streisand wearing a dominatrix attire and brandishing a whip had the cast and crew in fits of laughter. Streisand mocked Ford’s fury as she lashed her, and the on-set crew and viewers of the finished product shared hearty chuckles at the sight.
Carrie Fisher Comes To The Rescue
The prank was made funnier by Streisand’s lively banter during it. She mispronounced the names of many of Ford’s movies, which prompted some lighthearted corrections from the actor. Amusedly playing along, Ford corrected Streisand’s allusions to The Guns of Navarone with a grin, only to be “reprimanded” for Force 10 from Navarone and Hanover Street, both of which had been financial failures.
The mood on set was brightened by the renowned actors’ humorous banter with one another. At the most dramatic point of the hoax, Harrison Ford was saved by an old friend. Celebrity actress Carrie Fisher, well known for portraying Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, had a moving performance as she reenacted a touching scene from 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
Both the audience and the cast and crew enjoyed the heartfelt homage to the Star Wars franchise that was the reconstruction of Leia and Ford’s reunion. The anarchy was in full swing until the legendary director of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Irvin Kershner, decided to make an appearance.
Kershner took a lighthearted stance as he mockingly criticized Spielberg’s directing, offering constructive criticism playfully. It was already hilarious, but he pushed things into his own hands by giving detailed directorial comments to Streisand, Fisher, and even Ford.
