Steam Deck Rival – what do we know?

Steam Deck
Could the Steam Deck be set to face a new challenger?

Whilst we are currently limited with specific details regarding the Lenovo device, the Legion Go is reported to run on Windows 11 which would ensure seamless compatibility with PC gaming. And there is expectation that the Legion Go will be incorporating AMD’s state of the art Phoenix processors.

At the time of writing, there is still no confirmed release date or availability information been disclosed but if a previous leak is anything to go by, we may have an insight into the upcoming Legion Go. The leak in question uncovered Lenovo’s past project the ‘Legion Play‘, which was an android based cloud-oriented handheld device. And whilst this device never saw any type of launch, it could give us an insight into what to expect with the Legion Go.

Legion Go, the exciting new rival to the Steam Deck

Further rumours about the upcoming Lenovo device is that it will have an 8-inch display screen, which would be slightly larger than that of its competitors. The Steam Deck and the ROG Ally both sporting 7-inch screens. And this could provide an advantage for the Legion Go over its rivals, as the larger screen would be beneficial for gaming experiences which require sight of specific UI elements.

And it was also noted that the Legion Go was powered by AMD Phoenix 7040 series chips, which are highly praised for their power efficiency, which obviously aids in battery life and makes them suitable for lightweight gaming, much like rival devices Steam Deck and ROG Ally. However, we are still waiting on any further details of the device to be disclosed.

However it should be noted that Experts are suggesting that Microsoft may be intending to offer ‘significant support’ to original equipment manufacturers who are looking to explore the category of handheld gaming devices. And from this, Lenovo with their Legion go could be seen to be one of the companies which might benefit from this assistance.

In addition to this, it was noted that Dell’s Alienware Brand and several other major PC Gaming companies are looking to follow suit by launching their own handheld sometime in the future. So more competitors to the Steam Deck could be on the horizon.
