Salma Hayek was good friends with legendary singer, Prince Rogers Nelson, who passed away in 2016 due to a fentanyl overdose. While Hayek was shaken by the death of her friend, she had a lot of memorable stories to tell about Prince. The Bandidas actress even directed the Academy Award-winning musician in a music video years back.
Salma Hayek appeared alongside David Williams and Liam Payne in a 2017 episode of The Graham Norton Show. During their conversation about memorable celebrity encounters, Prince became a topic of discussion.
Salma Hayek Shared That Prince Had A Strange Sense Of Humor
David Williams shared a story from years ago when he was invited to a dinner by singer Bryan Ferry, along with Prince. Williams described Prince as a quiet and shy person in his story. However, to everyone’s amusement, Salma Hayek revealed that Prince was a funny guy. The Frida actress shared that Prince would crack jokes with friends, but admitted that he had a strange sense of humor.
The Wild Wild West actress recalled a funny incident during one outing when Prince comically pulled Hayek away from the food. The Grown Ups actress told Graham Norton:
“I know sometimes he was quiet, but I was very good friends with Prince; he was one of my closest friends. He was so funny. He didn’t crack jokes, but he had a strange sense of humor. We’d go somewhere and I’d start going for the food like I always do, and I’d try to get something. He’d be very serious and hold my hands, and go ‘Sister, stay away from the buffet.’”
Hayek’s impersonation of Prince made the whole situation a lot more funnier. The Eternals actress’ story was one of the least ridiculous stories about Prince. The singer was known for his weird antics and his long list of unreleased albums stored in a vault underneath his home.
Salma Hayek’s Story Overshadowed David Williams’ Awkward Encounter
David Williams, on the other hand, had a rather different experience with Prince. The Little Britain actor recalled that the dinner was very awkward, as both Prince and Bryan Ferry didn’t make any conversation. The Big School actor humorously added that Prince didn’t ask anything about him and didn’t even mention Britain’s Got Talent, where Williams served as a judge.
To spark a conversation, Williams had to start talking about Florence and the Machine, the indie rock band, whom he saw in a magazine lying there. However, Prince didn’t know about the band leaving Williams to sing the entire lyrics of the band’s song, You’ve Got the Love. The Rock Profile actor recalled the embarrassment of singing in front of a great singer.
As one comment below the YouTube video aptly states, David Williams met the celebrity Prince, while Salma Hayek knew the man behind the legend.
