Starfield is going to be one of the biggest games of the year, if not the decade (so far) and I don’t just mean in content size. With the promised features and gameplay mechanics it could completely change what a good RPG needs to do, but that’s only if Todd Howard’s many promises are realised to their full potential. We’ve yet to see one way or the other yet.
However, with a game of this magnitude comes quite the sizeable and demanding rig needed to play it. Of course the game is releasing for Xbox Series X|S, so there’s always the console route, but for those us who prefer or only own a gaming PC, well, we better hope it’s up to the task.
Starfield is Going to be a Beast
Starfield has promised a lot with it’s marketing materials and interviews with developers thus far. With 1,000 planets, of which around 100 will feature life, base and ship building, unique dialogue depending on previous actions and more, the game is going to be huge. It’s going to be between Starfield and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for which is the biggest game of the Christmas rush, and quite likely between those two for the coveted Game of the Year gong, but we digress.
Having published the system requirements over on Steam, a lot of potential players are realising that no, they won’t be playing. From needing a meaty graphics card, 125GB install space, is this the first game to ever require an SSD specifically? We think it might be.
The system specifications are daunting, although they come as no surprise with the aims and goals of the game. For those that will be affected, at least Bethesda have given enough time for you to make a decision. Upgrade, buy an Xbox Series X|S or miss out.

With the game boasting a story that’ll take around thirty to forty hours, and the aforementioned 1,000 planets to explore, the game isn’t going to be over quickly, and Todd Howard has famously been quoted as saying he hopes that Starfield be a game played for the next ten years. Bethesda are not shy of delivering on single-player, post-launch content either, with the game’s first expansion ‘Shattered Space’ already leaked, so that idea from Howard isn’t unlikely. Just look at Skyrim.
