Starfield is one of the most eagerly awaited games of this year. And now that it’s finally here, fans can finally lose themselves in the exploration of space. Unsurprisingly with a game that has so much hype, the numbers reflect the popularity of the game itself.
So much so that Xbox head Phil Spencer has come out to thank all the fans who have concurrently been sinking many hours into Starfield across the platforms.

What did Phil Spencer say to Starfield fans?
And Spencer took to Social Media to thank all those who had embraced their inner explorer and taken to the stars, posting the following on Twitter/X;
“Starfield exceeded 1 million concurrent players across all platforms today. Thanks to all the players who helped us reach this great milestone and congrats to the @BethesdaStudios” – @XboxP3
That’s seriously impressive numbers whatever way you look at it. And although there aren’t actual numbers for Xbox players and PC players direct from the Microsoft store, there are numbers available from Valve’s Steam service for the PC version of the game.
At the time of writing, Valve’s Steam player stats are showing Starfield as the fifth highest game with concurrent players, with a concurrent player number of 269,177 on Wednesday. But this still pales in comparison to the other recent RPG release from Larian Studios. Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently sitting in third position with a player count of 373,504.
There’s no doubt we’ll see greater numbers for Starfield this weekend when players have more time to focus on the title without work getting in the way. And looking at the sales numbers from Steam, we can see that it is currently the highest selling title, so look for those numbers to peak ever further.

Following Phil Spencer’s Social Media post, fans were quick to praise the game and thank both him and the Bethesda team for all the work which has delivered what could possibly be a Game of the Year contender according to some;

It’s clear that the fans who have been playing the game have loved what they have seen so far but it seems that not everyone is as enthusiastic about the title. IGN, PC Gamer and Gamespot don’t appear to rate the game as highly as others but hey, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.
