Although Starfield is still a couple of days away from being finally released, we have already received information about the first update patch for its early access. The very first patch for the upcoming space RPG will accompany the game the day it comes out on early access for Steam and Xbox Series X/S. The update will be called Starfield 1.7.23 and will consist of various in-game fixes, along with an exclusive feature for Steam Deck players: a virtual keyboard.
The apparently official document from developer, Bethesda Game Studios, also talks about the compatibility Starfield will have with the Steam Deck.

The Early Access of Starfield Will be Accompanied by a Patch
According to the document that revealed the day one patch for Starfield, players will be able to smoothly run the video game “on both the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally” if their systems have the “correct drivers.” It also warned that trying to play the game on “hardware below the recommended minimum specs” will hurt the experience and cause various performance issues.
Like with all game patches, it is recommended to download the early access patch for Starfield for the optimal experience. This is because the patch will fix any potential stability and performance issues, and considering how ambitiously huge the RPG seems to be, it is probably a good idea to let the patch do its thing. Xbox Series X/S players will be able to seamlessly suspend and resume the game with the help of the early access patch.
Additionally, there seems to be a rare crash that takes place only when players have completed Starfield and are sitting through the credits. If you are someone who likes to do that, the patch will fix it as well. It goes without saying that a game as big as this is obviously going to have more crashes. There is one that sometimes pops up when players try to repeatedly load their saves from inside of ships, which is something the patch will also take care of. Overall, the early access patch will definitely ensure the game leaves the best first impression on gamers.
Starfield Day One Patch Fixes Visuals, Gameplay, and Quests
Aside from the performance and stability improvements, the Starfield Day One patch will also fix the visuals in the game, including when hair refuses to show up on characters’ heads. In addition, bugs like distant objects looking weird, especially during the transition phase to a planet’s surface, will be taken care of as well. There are also moments when facial animations suddenly start to move, not like they’re supposed to, along with instances of startling white flashing boxes appearing in the game’s Handscanner, which will all be addressed by the patch.
From blending textures near coastlines to them randomly degrading on the Xbox Series S, the Starfield Day One patch will fix as much as it can. Then come the gameplay issues the patch addresses, such as Companions literally floating in the air or ship modules becoming misaligned. Finally, the early access patch will take care of rare quest issues, such as ship patrols just not appearing in a mission or the game not letting players check out New Atlantis because of a problem with the Contraband scan.
