Since the release of Fallout 76, Bethesda Studio fans have lost a lot of their trust in this studio. Nowadays, fans tend to wait for the actual game to be released and do not indulge themselves in hype culture. But it’s still hard, the Starfield direct event showcased various features that just sound awesome. At least, most of it. And Todd Howard’s promises do seem to have a high percentage of truth in them.
With the claim of having over 1000 planets and extensive utilization of procedural generation, it is clear that Starfield is going to provide players with a vast world to explore. Makes sense, as a space exploration game, this is a huge part of its appeal. However, you also have to keep in mind what the size of this game will be. It may even vary depending on the system you are using.

Here’s the size of Starfield for the PC
Now that there is going to be a Pre-load option for Starfield for Steam users on August 30th.It is revealed that Starfield is going to be 139.84 GB. Yes, this is a lot of GBs. This is the biggest game Bethesda Studios has ever created as it is going to be bigger than both Skyrim and Fallout 4. Moreover, this is only its current size, with the release of subsequent DLCs and updates the size of Starfield is going to increase even more from this amount.
And don’t forget about the modding scene. Bethesda Games titles are known to have a huge modding community, and modders are probably going to customize Starfield as well. So, get ready to uninstall several games on your PC before you download this behemoth of a title.
Hopefully, this size also indicates the large amount of content Bethesda has included. Funnily enough, the size reveal of the Xbox Series X|S version of this game was actually pretty shocking.

The size of Starfield on the Xbox Series X|S is smaller than the PC version
Generally, when you compare the sizes of video games on PC and consoles, the games on consoles are always larger. There are many reasons for this discrepancy. The main one is that consoles like Xbox Series X|S are uniquely designed machines that are only made for running games, thus, the sizes of the game files are less compressed than the ones on the PC.
However, this is not at all the case for Starfield on the Xbox Series X|S as it has a size of 126.1 GB. Unfortunately, PC users lost this battle. It seems like Bethesda Studios very much tailored this game for the Xbox Series X|S. The irony is that the PC mods scene is keeping many of their games alive even after years of release, so you would think that the PC version will be smaller.

In any case, the size of Starfield is really huge. Any game with more than 100 GB needs to have enough content to justify this amount of GBs. Furthermore, once the game is released, the subsequent content increases its size a lot more. You have to make sure your PC or even Xbox console has enough space, thus playing Starfield may feel like an investment. This aspect may detract many players. So, the game really needs to be great if it wants to win public opinion.
Everything that Bethesda Studios has revealed about Starfield has gotten positive responses. Which is really nice for a change. But remember, Bethesda games have a tendency for promising too much and then under-delivering, and most players are still skeptical about this upcoming game.
However, the size of Starfield has proven one thing for sure, the average size of video games is going to increase a lot in the future. Therefore, the gaming community should better make it a habit of expecting large sizes for AAA games.
