Why Starfield Is Turning Into Something Controversial

Why Starfield Is Turning Into Something Controversial
Starfield can’t seem to steer clear of controversy prior to its release.

There is no denying that Starfield may just be one of the biggest RPGs of all time, but even that probable fact is not enough to help it escape controversies from video game fans. The game is getting closer to its launch date, which is around two weeks away, and gamers have been treated to some of the gameplay footage to give them an idea of what to expect from the upcoming title.

However, there is definitely a sense of pressure that has been on the game since it was initially announced, especially considering how it is one of the most significant recent console exclusives for Xbox.

It hasn’t been an easy journey for Starfield ahead of its release because, already, fans are bracing themselves for potential and expected performance issues and bugs, given Bethesda’s previous track record with games such as Fallout 76. Fortunately, most gamers are trying to stay positive while placing their confidence in the game, hoping that it isn’t just an ambitious concept that sounds good on paper but is actually a commercial and critical success.

Early review copies have already started being distributed, but due to the embargo, proper feedback still has not been shared, although some people have not let that stop them and have shared what they think about the upcoming RPG.

What Is Creation Club in Bethesda’s Starfield?

What Is Creation Club in Bethesda's Starfield?
The Creation Club being included in Starfield is significant.

The aforementioned controversial feature returning in Bethesda’s Starfield is the Creation Club, an aspect that was hinted at on the game’s Steam EULA references, although there is no further information about whether it will be available at launch or through a patch in a future update. The Creation Club is something that was a major part of previous Bethesda releases as well, particularly The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, which lets players unleash their creativity by installing mods into these games, both on their consoles and PC versions.

Of course, many of these mods are completely free to use, but of course, there are some add-ons that are officially approved by Bethesda, and they require paid “Creation Credits” to be installed.

When fans saw these Creation Credits in the EULA references for Starfield on Steam, they immediately figured out what Bethesda was planning. The reports imply that the developer will be actively participating in putting its own mods into the upcoming RPG for players to buy. A while back, there were reports of the developer calling the game a “paradise” for modders, which now makes a lot more sense given the recent news.
