After having a fairly lackluster year due to the ongoing pandemic, Disney announced its most expansive upcoming Star Wars projects that have left the fans euphoric, to say the least. On its recently held Investor Day, the unrivaled studio house laid out its plans for the future of the MCU and Star Wars, as it has shifted to focusing more on television series rather than just movies. Here are all the upcoming Star Wars shows and movies that you should know about.
1. The Book of Boba Fett
The second season of The Mandalorian brought back a fan-favorite character who was believed to be dead after falling into the Sarlacc pit. But miraculously, Boba Fett returned with Temuera Morrison, who played the role of Jango Fett, at the helm. This mini-series will be set during the timeline of The Mandalorian with Boba Fett and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) making their way through the galaxy.

2. The Mandalorian Season 3

The hottest Star Wars property without a speck of doubt, The Mandalorian revived the failing franchise and re-united the warring fans after the polarizing sequel trilogy. Having left the series on a high note, expectations are running high as Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin faces off Bo-Katan to become the rightful ruler of Mandalore. It is expected to release somewhere in 2022.
3. Visions
Set to premiere in 2021 on Disney+, Visions is by far the most experimental upcoming Star Wars shows announced. This animated anthology series will have ten episodes with the best anime creators from the world weaving their magic and leaving their distinct style in each episode. Aimed to portray the diverse culture of the galaxy far, far away, Visions is expected to be an aesthetic and soulful immersive experience.
4. The Acolyte
Set in the final days of the High Republic Era, The Acolyte will explore the shadowy secrets of the galaxy as dark powers emerge in this mystery-thriller series. Developed by Leslye Headland (Sleeping With Other People, Bachelorette), The Acolyte will have a female lead with sinister forces lurking in the dark.
5. The Bad Batch
Created by Dave Filoni, The Bad Batch will serve both as a sequel and a spin-off to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Following the story of the titular squad of elite clones with genetic mutations. Named Clone Force 99, this elite unit will take on dangerous missions in the aftermath of the Clone Wars. It is set to release this year.
6. Rangers of the New Republic
The Mandalorian has received widespread acclaim for numerous reasons. One of them is having strong female characters with distinct personalities and interesting motivations. From Cara Dune to Bo-Katan Kryze, Rangers of the New Republic is expected to focus on these badass female characters as they explore the galaxy to destroy the remnants of the Galactic Empire.
7. Andor
Starring Diego Luna who will be reprising his role of Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor is set five years prior to the events of Rogue One. Developed by Tony Gilroy, who worked as a screenwriter for the Bourne franchise and also won an Academy Award nomination for Michael Clayton, Andor is set to be released somewhere in 2022 and will consist of 12 episodes.
8. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will have Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader respectively. The series is also confirmed to have another duel between the Jedi Master and the Sith Lord.
9. Lando
Solo: A Star Wars Story might not have been quite successful, but Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian received widespread acclaim. Featuring Glover, Lando is developed by Justin Simien, best known for his work on Dear White People. Following the adventures of Lando Calrissian, the show might also witness the return of Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo and Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra.
10. Ahsoka
After her successful stint in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka enjoyed even wider popularity when Rosario Dawson portrayed the character in the second season of The Mandalorian. The character’s massive popularity and Dawson’s incredible acting prowess will once again be on display as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are serving as showrunners.
11. A Droid Story
Teaming up with Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation is developing this animated movie following the adventures of a brand new hero who will be guided by the legendary duo of R2-D2 and C-3PO.
12. Willow
Based on 1988 fantasy film of the same name, Willow will have Warwick Davis reprise his role of Willow Ufgood. Joining Davis are Ellie Bamber, Cailee Spaeny, and Erin Kellyman in lead roles.
13. Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy

Despite creating a schism in the Star Wars fanbase with The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson is still working on his trilogy that will explore the lesser-known places of the galaxy in a different era from the Skywalker saga.
14. Rogue Squadron
After her astounding success with Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins is now developing Rogue Squadron, an original Star Wars movies that will focus on a new generation of Starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.
15. Untitled Taika Waititi Movie
Though the plot of this untitled Star Wars movie is being tightly kept under wraps, expect a wacky, humorous, and fun ride across the galaxy far, far away.
16. Untitled Kevin Feige Movie
After creating arguably the most successful franchise in recent times, Marvel President Kevin Feige has set his eyes on Star Wars as he has confirmed that he is working on a future movie. Is it the beginning of an interconnected filmverse?
