Spider-Man is Still a Wanted Man, Fans Ignored One Thing After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s MCU Debut in Tom Holland’s ‘No Way Home’

Spider-Man is Still a Wanted Man, Fans Ignored One Thing After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's MCU Debut in Tom Holland's 'No Way Home'

For the most part of their cinematic universe, Marvel has succeeded in maintaining a tight narrative with barely any major plotholes that disrupt its continuity. However, MCU hasn’t been immune to these plot contrivances, especially in the underwhelming phase four, which left a lot to be desired.

But surprisingly, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s biggest plothole was mostly ignored by the majority of fans, considering it was the most successful Phase 4 installment by miles. Even though No Way Home did mark a return to form for MCU in theatres after the Covid-era, they did miss out on addressing one of the most major events that kickstarted the movie in the first place.

Fans often look past this major plothole in Spider-Man: No Way Home

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio reveals the identity of Peter Parker and his death kickstarts the event of No Way Home. Although the sequel to Far From Home does an excellent job of dealing with the repercussions of the revelation of Peter Parker’s identity, the ending did end up creating a major plot hole. Even though Peter Parker is now forgotten from everyone’s minds due to Doctor Stranger’s spell, Spider-Man isn’t and neither is the death of Mysterio, and the Web-head still remains a murderer in the public eye.

But the whole matter of Mysterio framing Spider-Man for his death is never brought up again, leaving a major loophole in the story. But considering the film witnessed the return of previous fan favorites, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, seeing three Spider-Man joining forces onscreen was enough to take fans’ attention away from this inconsistency.

WGA strike delays Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4

Unlike Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland is getting a fourth movie in the franchise under his belt as Spider-Man, however, it appears it might be a long while before the project comes to fruition. Following the impact of the WGA strike, the fourth entry is currently on hold. Although Tom Holland hasn’t been much vocal about the details of the fourth film, he did address the issue of the strike’s impact on the movie. He explained,

“I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point, it’s very, very early stages.”

Although there are several other minor inconsistencies with MCU’s continuity in recent years, the one involving the Web-head remains one of the most major, which fans are ready to look past.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to stream on Apple TV.
