Sony is supposedly working on a Madame Web film despite it not being a very well-known character. Given the character’s obscurity, this may appear to be an odd film concept. While the future-seeing Spider-Man minor character has aided Peter Parker on several occasions throughout the years, her most notable role was as a supporting player in Spider-Man: The Animated Series in the 1990s. Here are some of the reasons why people believe this new Marvel series will be even worse than Morbius:
Who is Madame Web?
The character initially appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man comics in the 1980s, according to Hollywood Reporter. She is a psychic superhuman who excels in foreseeing the fate of Spider-themed superheroes, having mentored not just Peter Parker’s alter ego, but numerous generations of Spider-Woman characters. Cassandra Webb, as she is also called, is a blind and disabled old woman who is assisted by a web-like life support mechanism. We’ll have to wait and see if and how this character is reinterpreted in the film adaption. Deadline reported in March, “Insiders say due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony’s version of Doctor Strange”.
While Madame Web was intelligent and had a brilliant mind, she was confined in her mobility. This all changed in the late 1990s plot ‘The Gathering of Five,’ when she was offered youth and apparent immortality. Sasha Kravinoff eventually murdered her after a few years, but not before she could transmit her talents to Julia Carpenter.

Why is Sony making a Madame Web movie?
With so many legendary protagonists in the Spider-Man universe, it’s hard to understand why Sony is prioritizing this movie. However, considering that the Julia Carpenter iteration of the character was a pivotal role in the 2014 Spider-Verse crossover, this approach seems logical. The Spider-Verse pulls up hundreds of Spider-Man and Spider-Woman characters from all throughout the Marvel universe. They’re compelled to fight the Inheritors, a family of vampires that feed on superheroes such as Spider-Man. Madame Web is the first to notice the menace to the Web of Life and Destiny, and she acts quickly to preserve the whole multiverse. As a result, this might be a precursor for a larger live-action Spider-Verse film.

Fan reactions over release of story details:
Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff movie has released its first story details. According to Variety, the movie “will serve as an origin narrative for Madame Web, a clairvoyant whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world itself.” Starring Dakota Johnson from Fifty Shades of Grey and Sydney Sweeney from Euphoria. Johnson plays the title character, while Sweeney’s role is still unknown. Following the release of these story details, the gates to social media trolling were opened. One of the Twitter users wrote, “Is it bad that I have no idea who Madame Web is?”, while another said, “if madame web does end up being bad I will still pretend it’s good”.
One of the Twitter users also explained Madame Web’s bad press. He added that the difficulty with attempting to create a series of interconnected film franchises is that if the first few films are unsuccessful, people lose faith in the succeeding ones. Now, as a result of Venom and Morbius sucking, we can witness unfavorable fan bias against Kraven and Madame Web.
