According to Collider, Sony Pictures have just brought in Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to work on a Madame Web film.
The movie will be a part of their Spider-Man cinematic universe which currently includes Venom, Silver & Black, Kraven and Morbius.
With Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing Venom 2 and Morbius, it is safe to expect them to return for Madame Web. Avi Arad may be acting as the Kevin Feige for Sony, albeit with a far less consistent track record.
Who is Madame Web?
Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr. created Cassandra Web, an elderly blind woman with a chronic neuromuscular disease, in November 1980. Due to her ailments, she is permanently hooked up to a life support system which rather blatantly resembles a spider’s web.
Despite her being blind, Madame Web is a clairvoyant with telepathic abilities that allow her to see the future and sense psionic powers in others. Ever since her debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, she has used her abilities to help the wallcrawler.
Theory time
Madame Web is heavily linked to the “web of life and destiny” and the multiverse and so her movie could connect all of Sony’s projects, turning their cinematic universe into a cinematic multiverse.
Through her, they could bring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back for a live-action Spider-Verse. However, that is wishful thinking and speculation as nothing has been said about her movie yet.
For all we know, it could be an origin story for Madame Web much like how Venom was for Eddie Brock and the symbiote.
