Jamie Foxx’s name resides amongst the finest actors of our time thanks to performances like Django Unchained. He has time and again turned his talent to full brightness in a wide variety of roles, whether it is television or cinema. On top of that, Jamie Foxx is a Jack of All Trades having dipped his toes into acting, singing, songwriting, comedy, and more.
So what happened suddenly that fans are turning on Jamie Foxx? Well, his part in an ad campaign has something to do with the sudden burst of backlash. While actors certainly do advertisements from time to time, what makes Jamie Foxx’s act so different?
Jamie Foxx Becomes the New Face for BetMGM
If you have not heard of BetMGM, then here’s a quick summary. BetMGM is a joint, online betting, venture between MGM Resorts International and gambling giant, Entain Holdings. The company’s website states that BetMGM is “revolutionizing sports betting and online gaming in United States.”
In March 2022, the company announced Jamie Foxx as its brand ambassador and the actor has appeared in a few commercials for it as well. Not only that, his name is also plastered on BetMGM’s company website and social media.
Now, we all know and love Foxx’s ability to bring out the best in every role he takes on. However, it seems like the ads couldn’t do justice to his talent. The ads also feature a few other celebrities including Kevin Garnett, Barry Sanders, and High School Musical fame, Vanessa Hudgens.
Fans Aren’t Pleased with Jamie Foxx
Whether it is the constant replaying of the ads on social media, the sub-par acting from those involved, or the fact that the company shows a harmful industry in a positive light, Foxx’s BetMGM’s ads have not been received well by the fans.
On Reddit, a user blasted Foxx’s BetMGM commercials on the subreddit, r-CommecialsIHate. The post reads, “I never disliked Jamie Foxx until this ad played over and over again.” And the user’s views were shared by many others who were absolutely frustrated with the commercials for more reasons than one.
A user wrote, “That’s Jamie? Man talk about a fall and a half,” with another commenting, “I despise those commercials.” The hate for Foxx’s newest side gig ranged from “Yeah cause it’s the perfect time to gamble with some people being out of work due to the pandemic” to “I’m getting SO F*CKING TIRED of his bulls*it ad interrupting my Shark Tank episode 3-4 times a f*cking episode.” Needless to say, fans are not happy.
Elsewhere, someone commented on Foxx’s credibility and wondered how such a huge star could advertise a product like BetMGM.
“The notion that someone like Jamie Foxx, a role model of sorts, would be advertising it is a new low.”
After seeing Foxx in films like Django Unchained, Baby Driver, Ali, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and more, fans were right to question the actor’s sudden need to become the face of BetMGM. There’s a huge chance that Foxx is simply in it for the money, although we don’t know how much he is getting paid for the job.
