While he got worldwide acclaim for starring as the web-swinging superhero Spider-Man in the MCU, Tom Holland has been in show business for over a decade. He made his film debut with the 2012 film The Impossible and received positive reviews for his performance in the movie. The English actor has been in the conversation regarding his recent Apple TV series The Crowded Room, in which he portrays a character based on Billy Milligan.
And throughout his career, the 27-year-old actor has made an observation about himself that he believes would have troubled the directors he has worked with so far.
Tom Holland Reviews All His Takes While Filming
Along with being a great actor Tom Holland is also known to be a terrific dancer as well, which he showed off during the lip-synch battle with his girlfriend, Zendaya. And the dancer inside him also helps him establish the character he portrays.
During an interview with Backstage, Holland shared that he follows a “dance in the mirror mentality” to get into his character. And in order to do that, he reviews almost all his takes while filming. While it is something he does to establish the character, directors get quite a bit scared by his behavior.
“You sometimes find people going, ‘Why do you want to watch everything? Don’t you trust me?’” the Marvel star shared. He shared that by reviewing those takes, he wants to make sure it comes out exactly as he thought it would. He follows the same practice for the first few weeks of filming.
However, he is also aware that not everyone might tolerate this kind of behavior on the set. The Cherry star shared that he is lucky to have worked with directors who have not objected to his behavior, as “some people would be very against that.” While some may not find his habit too pleasing, it was what led The Avengers directors to continue working with him.
The Russo Brothers Find Tom Holland Easy to Engage
While Tom Holland believes that directors would be bothered by his behavior, The Russo Brothers found it quite intriguing. The directing duo has worked with Holland in three Marvel projects, along with the 2021 crime drama Cherry.
And they have said that Holland’s eagerness for behind-the-camera work is one of the reasons they loved working with him. “It suits our process very well, to be honest with you,” Anthony Russo said before adding, “We like to talk about the totality of the film with all of our collaborators. And Tom is somebody who is very easy to engage on that level because his brain goes there.”
Anthony Russo further shared that he was especially impressed by the Spider-Man actor reviewing his work after every take and making it better for the next one, as it’s the same as The Russo Brothers prefer to follow during filming.
Holland also shared that he sees himself taking the director’s chair in the future. While it may take some time for the Marvel star to reach there, he has served as an executive producer for his recent psychological thriller The Crowded Room.
The Crowded Room is streaming on Apple TV+.
