Christopher Nolan is easily one of the most genius minds out there when it comes to the art of filmmaking. He continues his streak with Oppenheimer, a film based on the true story of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who helped in the research and development of the first nuclear weapons. Christopher Nolan opened up about how some viewers have reacted to the film so far, and it looks like Oppenheimer is going to stick with the audience for a long, long time.

In an interview with Wired, Christopher Nolan was asked about some of the lucky few who got to see Oppenheimer before the rest of the world and how they responded to it. Nolan stated that the film, out of fear, left the viewers absolutely stunned and unable to speak. According to him, fans left the theatres devastated.

“Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated. They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings. But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.”

Nolan also added that when he showed Oppenheimer to a filmmaker, they called it a horror movie instead of the thriller it is. The Batman Begins director admitted that this film has more darkness in it than any of his other work.

“I showed it to a filmmaker recently who said it’s kind of a horror movie. I don’t disagree…As I started to finish the film, I started to feel this color that’s not in my other films, just darkness. It’s there. The film fights against that.”

And you probably thought you couldn’t get more excited about the film, right? Well, in just one month, fans will be able to experience the hype for themselves as they walk into possibly one of the greatest cinematic experiences of their lives.

The interviewer stated that while looking at Nolan’s films in reverse, one might say that all of his and producer Emma Thomas’ work had been leading up to Oppenheimer. The director stated that the idea is not at all “presumptuous” and that he feels the same way as well.

“I don’t think that’s at all presumptuous. It’s how I feel about the film…I’ve tended to feel this way with every project I’ve done. Because I’m trying to build on what I’ve learned before. Every time you finish a film, there are questions left hanging. And so with the next film, you kind of pick up the thread. In the case of Oppenheimer, very literally, there is a reference to Oppenheimer in Tenet [Nolan’s previous movie].”

We simply cannot wait to see Nolan’s intricate mind unravel on the screen as Cillian Murphy brings the titular character to life. On top of that, we get to see the star-studded cast which includes, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Jack Quaid, Florence Pugh, and so on. Oppenheimer is going to be one unforgettable cinematic moment, isn’t it?
