Sofia Vergara, who is best known for playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the ABC series Modern Family, has recently surprised fans by choosing a different direction. She has portrayed Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC comedy series from 2009 to 2020. For this role, she even received nominations for four Primetime Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. After its end, the Colombian-American actress and TV personality has served as an America’s Got Talent judge since 2020.
Well, during last night’s America’s Got Talent live results episode, host Terry Crews put judge Sofia Vergara on the spot. On live television, she was required to put on a lie detector and respond to queries from the other judges.
The big question about whether she preferred working on AGT or Modern Family was posed by her fellow judge, Simon Cowell. Guess what she said in response!
Sofia Vergara Prefers This Show Over Modern Family
Modern Family was unquestionably a groundbreaking and beloved sitcom. Though, after eleven successful seasons, Sofia Vergara was ready for a new challenge. Her role as a judge on America’s Got Talent gave her the chance to see and encourage undiscovered talents from various backgrounds.
During yesterday’s episode of the show, Vergara was chosen to answer some questions, and the other judges alternatively posed inquiries from AGT viewers. After a series of fans’ questions, Simon Cowell finally asked the Colombian-American (via CinemaBlend):
“Do you prefer working on America’s Got Talent or Modern Family?”
Honestly, she had only one response to offer:
“America’s Got Talent.”
This was quite strange because, according to Variety, Vergara received payments ranging from $30,000 to $65,000 per episode when Modern Family first began. She was making at least $500,000 per episode by the end of the show.
Sofia Vergara was unsure of her future after Modern Family ended. She once revealed to Variety:
“I don’t think any one of us were ready. It was such an amazing experience. It’s, like, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an actor to be cast in a TV show like that with success all over the world.”
Sofia Vergara Was ‘Very Worried’ After Modern Family Ended
Sofia Vergara admitted to being “very worried” about what to do after Modern Family ended. She told Variety:
“I was very worried, like, ‘What am I going to do next?’ You know, as an actor, there is a very small percentage that you’re going to find a show with that success, so I said that I am going to go and do the opposite because I know I won’t find that again — and that’s how I found ‘AGT’.”
Vergara never gave the idea of serving as a judge on a reality TV show a second thought:
“It didn’t occur to me that I could ever do something like ‘AGT’ ever in my life, so when they came to me with the offer, I was like, ‘What? Me?’ And then it was like, ‘Oh my god, this is a godsend.’ I realized that maybe this is what I would need to do to forget about ‘Modern Family.’”
But now, she is currently having a great time and enjoying herself on America’s Got Talent judges panel:
“It’s been a pleasure to work at ‘AGT’. I was worried I wouldn’t find a group of people as amazing as Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet and everyone, but now that I am at ‘AGT,’ I am super happy. Of course, I miss ‘Modern Family,’ but I’ve become friends with all the people and it’s been amazing, even through the pandemic.”
She will soon be seen in the crime drama television miniseries, Griselda. It is based on the life of infamous cocaine trafficker Griselda Blanco. The Netflix miniseries will premiere in January 2024.
Meanwhile, America’s Got Talent is streaming on FuboTV and you can watch Modern Family on Hulu.
