“Snyderverse as Elseworlds stories”: Fans Demand Justice League 2 after James Gunn’s DCU Reportedly Distancing itself from Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe

Fans Demand Justice League 2 after James Gunn's DCU Reportedly Distancing itself from Matt Reeves' The Batman Universe

Although it has been almost 2 years since the 2021 movie Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released, fans cannot get enough of the franchise. With James Gunn doing a reboot of the DCU, he has reportedly also removed one more director from the DCU.

Matt Reeves, known for The Batman will be reportedly working on the sequels which will be in a different universe rather than be a part of DCU. When fans realized that this option is available too, people demanded that Justice League 2 and Zack Snyder’s vision be released in the same way i.e., different from the DCU.

Fans Demand Zack Snyder’s Return Just Like Matt Reeves

The world changed when director Matt Reeves gave his vision of Gotham City and Batman in the 2022 movie The Batman. Seemingly leaving fans heavily impressed, it was later reported that Matt Reeves’ version of Batman will not be a part of the DCU that James Gunn was building.

In a recent Twitter post, the news was announced that a sequel to the 2022 movie, The Batman 2 is currently in the works. Alongside the sequel, a spin-off titled The Penguin will also be made with additional filmmakers. As per the tweet, the movies and spin-offs will not be a part of the DCU however.

With fans realizing that the same tactic could be used by Zack Snyder, a campaign for Justice League 2 started. Fans demanded that much like Reeves, Zack Snyder could also release his vision while not being a part of the DCU.

Despite fans petitioning harder than before, it is not an easy task for Zack Snyder to just take over the DCU and finish his vision. The director is currently busy working on his upcoming magnum opus titled Rebel Moon.

With Zack Snyder working on his magnum opus, it seems that he got a pretty sweet deal from Netflix for his story. In an interview, the Man of Steel director stated that his upcoming movie Rebel Moon will expand far beyond just the two movies that were originally planned.

“When I pitched it to Netflix, the scale was a thing they wanted. They were like, ‘Well, how big could it be? How many movies?’ That made me go, ‘Okay, if we really do this, we can sink our teeth pretty deep into this. We can’t really hit the bottom.’”

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is set to release on 22nd December 2023 on Netflix around the world.
