As Sam Levinson’s upcoming series, The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp) and The Weeknd, continue to be termed as a “luxury sleaze” and “s*xually tortured p*rn”, Lily-Rose Depp came forward to defend the bareness of her character as Jocelyn.
Lily-Rose Depp said:
“Jocelyn is a born and bred performer – and I think that extends to every aspect of her life, not just her professional life. The way that she dresses, for example, is her trying to tell you something all the time… or express herself in some kind of way.
I also think that the occasional bareness of the character physically mirrors the bareness that we get to see emotionally in her.”
Sam Levinson, on the other hand, compared the upcoming series to his hit, Euphoria, and admitted that the “things that might be revolutionary are taken too far”. Abel Tesfay’s controversial, “proactive, and troubled” HBO series, The Idol premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.

The upcoming series, The Idol, has been billed as a “darker, crazier and more risqué version” of Levinson’s hit series, Euphoria. Even though termed as the “sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood”, Levinson feels that Jocelyn is a “reflection of American culture— particularly the influence of p*rnography on the “psyche of young people.”

Early teasers of the series reveal that the upcoming series is all about parties, drugs, and everything controversial, and takes the viewers into the “shady underbelly of Hollywood, fame, and corruption.” The Idol premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 22, 2023.
The controversial series will be available to view on HBO and Max starting June 4, 2023.
