Jennifer Lawrence won an Academy Award at the tender age of 22, propelling her to Hollywood stardom. The Don’t Look Up actress has an extensive portfolio of serious dramatic roles, but her real-life persona is a font of comedy gold. Not every actress can turn an embarrassing Oscar moment into a running gag.
The Hunger Games actress has been a frequent presence at award functions, with several instances of her behaving like a regular person spotting a celebrity— one involving her flustered encounter with Matt Damon.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Big Fan Girl Moment With Matt Damon
During the 73rd Golden Globes Awards, Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress award in a Musical or Comedy film for her performance in Joy. Coincidentally, the award for Best Actor in the same category was presented to Matt Damon for his role in The Martian. In a YouTube video released by Entertainment Weekly, the Silver Linings Playbook actress can be seen becoming visibly excited upon spotting Matt Damon after the award function.
Lawrence was engaged in a conversation with the interviewer about her award and her exquisite red cut-out gown. The Red Sparrow actress was joking about twinning with Amy Schumer as both of them liked the same dress. A few moments later, Matt Damon appears on the other side and the actress gets all excited saying, “Matt Damon is behind us! This is not a drill! This is not a drill!”
Meanwhile, Matt Damon is seemingly amused at the delight in the voice of the Serena actress. Lawrence seeing that Damon has noticed them tries to save face and politely says she loved his movie, trying to curb her inner fan girl.
Jennifer Lawrence Is Anything But A Celebrity
Over the years, Jennifer Lawrence has accumulated her fair share of fangirl moments. Whether it’s the flirtatious banter and the “Oh My God” reaction to Jack Nicholson or awkwardly running away from Jeff Bridges or hiding her face around Homeland star Damian Lewis, Lawrence’s encounters are replete with starstruck charm. In an interview with W magazine, she opened up on her experiences of being starstruck by celebrities:
“To me, the biggest celebrities in the world are, like, Pete Davidson. Or when Ariana Grande was in my last film, Don’t Look Up, I was photographed with her and I fully look like a radio contest winner.”
The comment section beneath the YouTube video is abuzz with praise for the X-Men: Apocalypse actress, while some comments spotlight how Matt Damon totally deserves it. One comment reads, “Um, who would NOT freak out over Matt Damon?”, while another notes, “Everyone loves Matt Damon. He is a gift to the mankind. Thanks to the God.”
Enthusiastic fans will have to wait and see for any potential collaboration between these two talented actors.
