One Piece Series Creator Confirms He Thinks Emily Rudd’s Nami is the Smartest

The long-awaited One Piece live-action adaptation has finally arrived and fans have shared their reviews and they loved it. The series has lived up to the name of the franchise. The series delivers on its promise of epic travels, dramatic action scenes, engaging characters, and iconic moments from the hugely popular manga and anime. The series’ creators, Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, worked hard and succeeded thanks to the strong influence of Oda-san himself. The series’ cast features Iaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Matt Owens’ Thoughts about Nami and Emily Rudd

While talking to Netflix, Matt talks about how he feels that Nami is the smartest character in the crew till now. He said:

“She’s kind of like an older sister surrounded by a group of younger brothers. And what’s funny is: That is the dynamic that has happened on our show. That has become Emily’s position, for better or for worse, with the other Straw Hat actors.”

On the other hand, Emily Rudd who plays the character of Nami thinks that she is the “cool, calm, collected cat burglar of the group.” She also discussed her vast background with anime and manga, revealing that the actress grew up watching Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, and, in particular, Sailor Moon, a popular anime in the United States and Canada. She believed that anime and manga helped in her development into the person she is today. She claims that she was born to portray Nami.

Matt Owens’s Favorite Nami Scene from the Series

In a YouTube livestream known as Reverie, Matt Owens talks about his experience with every character and the one scene that he loves the most. Owens said there are a few, but he notably mentioned Nami‘s “help me” incident. This sequence is widely recognized as one of the most memorable in the original anime and manga series. Furthermore, the “help me” sequence is seen as an emotional moment for many fans, during which they fell in love with the franchise.
