Though her life has been full of complicated endeavors, Marilyn Monroe continued to remain the iconic diva that she was. However, her co-star from the movie Dont Bother To Knock, Richard Widmark, had earlier explained how difficult it was shooting with Monroe because she used to be “scared to death” by acting.

“She was a vulnerable kid. Murder to work with because she was scared to death of acting – even when she became a big movie actress. We had a hell of a time getting her out of the dressing room. When it was five o’clock , it got irritating”

Richard Widmark and Marilyn Monroe star in Roy Ward Baker’s 1952 psychological suspense film Don’t Bother to Knock. In the same New York hotel where a pilot, played by Widmark, is staying, Monroe is portrayed as a neurotic babysitter. He begins to flirt with her, but as the evening goes on, her odd behavior makes him more and more conscious that she is crazy. The way he responds to the issue has a significant effect on all three lives.

Marilyn Monroe wasn’t considered a professional actress

Looks like her stage fright caught up to Monroe to the extent of hampering her professionalism. Legendary filmmaker and actor Laurence Olivier who co-starred with Marilyn Monroe in The Prince and the Showgirl also shared his experience working with the troublesome actress.

“She had that phenomenal something! Nobody knows what it is, but she had it. She certainly was never a professional actress. She always had a coach with her, lurking in the background, giving her signals. And she could never remember three words in a row – so it was all piece-work. Beyond all the technical deficiencies, she was a nice girl. We got along fine.”.

Later, Oliver also revealed that Monroe used to regularly come to set late, sometimes 4 hours late, and even when she did turn up, the actress always used to have a bad temper. The people on set used to end up getting frightened by her which all together made it difficult for everyone to work with her.
