From X-men to The Hunger Games franchise, lead actress Jennifer Lawrence has proved her mettle in acting. The gorgeous diva is an expert in action sequences, and what baffles us is that she is equally good in other genres like comedy or romance. Lawrence won her first Academy Award for Best Actress for the movie Silver Lining Playbook when she was only 22 years old.
The Passengers fame has been doing plays in theatres from a very young age, and she feels therapeutic when acting. However, it would be difficult to believe that the actress suffered from social anxiety during her school days, and even therapy could not help her.
Jennifer Lawrence opens up on dealing with social anxiety
The American Hustle actress revealed in an interview with the French magazine Madame Figaro (via Us Weekly) about being energetic and engaging in childhood. However, she became very dull when she started going to school.
Jennifer Lawrence said,
“I was hyperactive, curious about everything. When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly. When I entered school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends.”
The actress shared that she tried getting her light back with traditional therapy, but it did not work.
She revealed going for a play casting on a whim. Lawrence said,
“One day, I begged my parents to take me to a casting. We went to New York, and that’s where I started acting. Just on stage, my mother saw the change that was taking place in me. She saw my anxieties disappear. She found her daughter, the one who had this light and joy before school.”
Jennifer Lawrence used to perform in church plays and school musicals in her schooling days.
Jennifer Lawrence took therapy for The Hunger Games
Jennifer Lawrence was cast with Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson in the movie adaptation of the widely popular fantasy series, The Hunger Games in 2012. The actress became the face of the box-office hit franchise. Though the movie made her one of the highest-paid actresses of the time, there was a moment was Lawrence was not sure if she could handle the stardom. She shared in London Film Festival’s Screen Talk,
“I think I lost a sense of control. Between The Hunger Games coming out and winning the Oscar [for 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook], I became such a commodity that I felt like every decision was a big, big group decision. When I reflect now, I can’t think of those following years, [because there was] just a loss of control.”
As per reports, the actress also took some therapy sessions for her movie The Poker House. Lawrence was deeply affected by the dark plot of the movie, which took a toll on her.
Jennifer Lawrence will be seen in the upcoming film No Hard Feelings, due to release in theatres on 23 June.
