Throughout his Hollywood career, Tobey Maguire has been linked with numerous women. The Spider-Man star also got married in 2007 to the jewelry designer, Jennifer Meyer. However, the couple separated in 2016. Although he has been reported to be going out with several Hollywood stars, things were not so good between him and his co-star Charlize Theron while they worked on the 1999 film The Cider House Rules.
The Old Guard star has shared how she and Maguire did not go along very well. During his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the Brothers star shared why he did not think about dating his co-star while working on the 1999 film.
Tobey Maguire on Dating Charlize Theron
Things are not always as they appear on the big screen. Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron, who played love interests in the 1999 romantic drama, are one of the examples of such a situation. While discussing his relationships on The Howard Stern Show, he shared that it has been difficult for him to commit himself to a woman due to his busy schedule.
The discussion led Robin Quivers to question, “Did Charlize Theron even look at you in The Cider House Rules?” Adding to it the host of the show, Howard Stern asked him if there was something romantic going on with the Monster star while working together.
“I think she’s the hottest chick I’ve ever seen,” Howard Stern said. The Babylon star ended their curiosity as he shared that nothing romantic happened between them. He said, “She is very beautiful, and I did not know she had a boyfriend at the time.”
The Great Gatsby star further said, “Not that that would have made a difference, but…we didn’t.” Robin Quivers burst into laughter after listening to his answer and said, “Now you can get her.” Maguire agreed with her saying that maybe now he could.
Quivers also said that he can get her attention. When the host asked him if he met her after working on the film, he said that Theron is a “very cool and very funny girl.” While the Hancock star has shared that she did not get along with his co-star in the 1999 film, she claims that it helped her to tackle her future roles.
Charlize Theron Learned Different Things Working with Tobey Maguire
During an interview with V Magazine, Charlize Theron shared her experience working with Tobey Maguire on The Cider House Rules. She shared that although she was not able to get along with Maguire during the film, they patched things up since.
“Every day [on set was] completely different for a completely different reason. Whether it’s the weather, or the writing isn’t there, or you don’t get along with your castmate, you have to be able to go to something else that’s just as powerful.”
Theron also shared that filming intimate scenes with each other was not an easy task for both of them. “We had some really intimate moments. Tobey and I didn’t feel that way about each other, so I had to figure something else out,” she said.
However, she shared that it helped her to learn different things. The Cider House Rules received positive reviews and went on to win two Academy Awards. John Irving won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Michael Caine won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
