“She immediately disappeared”: Sharon Stone Fled Italy to Avoid Kissing Keanu Reeves’ John Wick Co-Star That Left Director Stumped

Sharon Stone Fled Italy to Avoid Kissing Keanu Reeves’ John Wick Co-Star That Left Director Stumped

When Italy called Sharon Stone, the actress responded fervently and with much expectations about what her role encompassed in the Avati Brothers-directed 2014 film, Golden Boy. But despite the actress’s readiness to get back to work, her usual air of grace and Hollywood-ism was amiss among all the hoopla put out by the Italian filmmakers to make Stone feel welcomed into the country.

Despite it all, the star who was once recognized at every turn of her life because of the ground-shaking and era-defining role in the Michael Douglas film, Basic Instinct, was lost to the ripples of time and age. And according to the filmmakers, the only time she did come out of her cocoon, she embodied a near-impossible diva-like attitude/persona that not only made the directors’ lives hell but landed the production in hot water too.

Sharon Stone Reportedly Made an Italian Director’s Life Hell

During the production of Golden Boy, a 2014 romance drama starring Sharon Stone and Riccardo Scarmarcio, the former was anything but cooperative on the sets of the low-budget Italian film. For starters, Sharon Stone was one nuisance short of acting like an utter and total Hollywood brat, if the director is to be believed at all regarding their outrageous claims about the veteran actress.

Director Pupi Avati claimed that as the news of her arrival in Italy spread among the media, more photographers began gathering outside her hotel and on the movie set. As the presence of the paparazzi increased, trouble soared on Stone’s part as the actress began to get increasingly flustered and nervous about their involvement in the periphery.

“It was the last scene in the day and we had to do the last shot where Sharon kisses Scamarcio. Suddenly, she realized that together with all the photographers there was also a TV cameraman who was filming. She immediately disappeared. We looked for her everywhere, but nothing! Then my brother received a phone call from Los Angeles from her manager: she wouldn’t come back on the set until the photographers and especially that damned TV cameramen had gone away.

Obviously, we did so and she, like nothing happened, shot the scene. The thing that I found most absurd is that she had to call to the States and to close herself in a car, instead of coming to ask us directly.”

The rest of the filming process went as smoothly as could be expected. And though the actress’s behavior may have seemed a bit too much for the Avati Brothers, when asked about collaborating with her a second time, Pupi Avati did not rule out the possibility entirely claiming “it is not absolutely true that I would never work with her again.”

Sharon Stone Makes Work Difficult For the Avati Production

Yet another memorable incident that witnessed Sharon Stone making the producer’s life difficult involved a trip to Bulgari with the company’s credit card while shopping for her character’s wardrobe which almost made the producer pass out in shock regarding the tab of expenses incurred. Actress Cristiana Capotondi who played Scarmarcio’s ex-wife in the film recalled the incident and said:

“To witness the Hollywood diva-ism clashing up against the craftsmanship of the Avati brothers was an unforgettable experience. The funniest thing was when she was going shopping for her character with the production’s credit card. She had a production runner following her, at a distance, to tell Antonio which shops she was going into. When the runner called to say that she was going into Bulgari, Antonio almost fainted.”

It is ironic how, almost a decade later, Cristiana Capotondi now acts as one of the many faces of Bulgari as she helps unveil and promote the new Bulgari Hotel Roma while wearing one of their finely crafted understated pieces as she takes the viewers on a tour around the exquisite building.
