With weeks away from hitting the big screens, the excitement around Greta Gerwig’s Barbie keeps on elevating, thanks to all the memes that have been floating over the web. But apart from all the jokes surrounding the film for releasing on the same date as Oppenheimer, following Gerwig’s skills behind the lens, fans are optimistic that the film might subvert audiences’ expectations.
And it appears, the film has once again generated some buzz around it after the Greenberg star revealed that no CGI was used to film Barbie’s (Margot Robbie) arched feet scene.
Greta Gerwig refused to use CGI for Barbie‘s arched feet scene
Reflecting on Quentin Tarantino‘s illustrious filmography, fans can’t help but notice a pattern of frequent foot shots in his films, prompting jokes surrounding the director’s rumored foot fetish. And considering Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood also comprises its fair share of foot scenes involving Margot Robbie, the internet is once again obsessed with Robbie’s feet in the upcoming Barbie.
Following in the Pulp Fiction director’s footsteps, it seems Greta Gerwig too embraces the beauty of The Suicide Squad star’s feet, as the director clarified they refused to use CGI for the high-heel scene. Greta Gerwig further explained,
“There was a big discussion in the beginning. Everyone said, ‘Are you going to CGI all the feet?’ And I thought, ‘Oh god, no! That’s terrifying! That’s a nightmare.’ And [Margot] has the nicest feet. She has these beautiful dancer feet. She should just hang on to that bar and do it just like this.”
However. nailing the part was quite challenging for the actress, as it took 8 takes for Margot Robbie to finally perfect the arched feet scene, which can be seen in the trailer.
Quentin Tarantino asked Margot Robbie to keep her feet dirty
Looking back at her time in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, where she plays the role of Sharon Tate, Margot Robbie revealed that Quentin Tarantino asked her to not clean her feet during filming. Considering actress Sharon Tate would walk barefoot on the sets, Tarantino asked Robbie to do the same and not clean her feet to make them look real. Robbie recalled,
“But my feet were dirty because I’d been walking around set. They stayed dirty in the movie because Quentin said, ‘Don’t. Don’t clean them,”
However, this went on to create a new wave of memes and jokes, which has only elevated the hype around the upcoming Barbie film, as fans can’t wait to witness Robbie nailing another role.
Barbie will hit theatres on 21 July 2023.
