Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been in the buzz since its announcement. Now that the director and the cast are promoting the movie many behind the scene events have come to light and they are quite interesting.
Nolan, who is known for his unique blend of artistic and cinematic marvel with commercial movie-making; has a peculiar taste for fashion as well. The director admitted that he often criticized Oppenheimer actor Emily Blunt on set for her fashion choice.
Christopher Nolan Was Disgusted With Emily Blunt’s Uggs
Emily Blunt wore a pair of Uggs on set during the shooting of Oppenheimer. The look of Blunt wearing the Uggs disgusted Christopher Nolan as he admitted it “used to drive me crazy” while filming the World War II drama. The director also asked her to get rid of the Uggs, “I’d immediately say to her, ‘Can you please just get rid of the boots, put the shoes on, and get ready to go?'”
Perhaps Nolan hates Uggs more than anyone in the world, in an interview with USA Today the Jungle Cruise actor revealed how the Interstellar director despised Uggs. “I’ve never known anyone to detest a pair of Uggs more than Chris Nolan,” the 40-year-old actor said.
“I would sometimes put on some Uggs and I’d just get this withering look down to my feet – it was like being in The Devil Wears Prada again. Just the look down to the shoes. And I’d go, ‘I know, I know. But I’m just sitting on an apple box in the background today!'”
However, the director’s unreal disgust toward Uggs did not last long as Blunt devised a sweet revenge plan for criticizing her on set.
Emily Blunt’s Revenge on Christopher Nolan
Nolan eventually learned his lesson and understood the essence of Uggs being part of Blunt’s fashion after the Edge of Tomorrow actor devised a perfect revenge plan for the director. “She gave me a pair of Uggs boots — Ugg slippers, actually — as a wrap gift,” Nolan said on Friday’s episode of The View.
“For people who have been on a set, people know how it works — we’re there, losing the light, ‘Okay, we need the actors to come in,’ and sometimes they’ll come straight from wardrobe, but they’ll have these big coats on top and they’ll be wearing these big Ugg boots, because the shoes of the character are uncomfortable. You know, 1940s shoes.”
But soon, the pair of Uggs sent by Blunt was “pretty comfortable,” Nolan admitted later. Nolan’s wife, Emma Thomas who produced the movie, Oppenheimer wrote a thank you card to Blunt saying, “Brilliant wrap gift. He’s wearing them now.”
But was surprised to know that her plan worked, she was very satisfied with her revenge on the director. “I was so pleased!” Blunt said.
Oppenheimer is currently showing in the theatres.
