Sharon Stone doesn’t see eye to eye with Hollywood regarding Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is widely regarded as one of the greatest Hollywood actresses of all time and her accomplishments in the realm of acting is second to none. Garnering several accolades over the years, including three Academy wins from a record 21 nominations, it’s reasonable to see why she is deemed the best in the business. However, Sharon Stone doesn’t seem to share the same belief as she once expressed that Streep doesn’t need to be worshipped for her accomplishments in the industry. She said,

“The business was set up that we should all envy and admire Meryl because only Meryl got to be the good one. And everyone should compete against Meryl. I think Meryl is an amazingly wonderful woman and actress. But in my opinion, quite frankly, there are other actresses equally as talented as Meryl Streep. The whole Meryl Streep iconography is part of what Hollywood does to women,”

Sharon Stone went on to list several actresses, who she believed were on the same level as Meryl Streep, including Viola Davis, as Stone claimed that Davis, “is every bit the actress Meryl Streep is”. However, this didn’t stop the Casino Star from commending Streep’s achievements and skills and she commended the Sophie’s Choice star for not shying away from showcasing her true self.

Sharon Stone commended Meryl Streep for showcasing her true self to the audience

Despite not being fond of The Post actress’ status in the industry, Sharon Stone doesn’t have any grudge against Meryl Streep and even commended the actress for how she presented herself. Stone expressed that unlike several other actresses, who are focused on being glamorous and beautiful, Streep’s way of being true to herself and showcasing herself as a regular person made fans relate to her. The Total Recall star further commended the actress by stating,

“I think that’s why Meryl Streep is working so much because she looks like a woman we can all relate to. I look at her and I think, ‘I’m chasing my kids, I’ve moved my parents in with me, I’m coping with food spills – that looks like me in real life. Meryl looks like an unmade bed, and that’s what I look like. To me, that looks true,”
