Talking about fame and the attention that she received for her controversial role, Stone claims that the movie that made her famous was also the movie responsible for her downfall.

With an ongoing murder spree, a police officer investigates a seductive and manipulative novelist that just might be the murderer after all. Although the story seems more of a murder mystery, the 1992 movie Basic Instinct had a lot more than just plain old murders and violence.
The movie had a very strong s*xual premise since Sharon Stone, who portrayed the character of Catherine Tramell, was the seductive and manipulative novelist in question. Well, the movie was bound to get s*xual but that was something quite unheard of for the people of 1992. According to Stone, the amount of untapped fame that she received overnight for her role quite literally destroyed her personal life!
After some incidents that involved Sharon Stone getting some more-than-necessary fame, the actress was quite overwhelmed by all of it. Recalling the experience, the Total Recall actress revealed that her friend helped her out during those rough times.
“I was on my knees, dry heaving. And he took me to his room, sat me on the side of the tub, ran some cold water, told me to put my feet in there and gave me a Valium. He handled a lot of big stars in his time and he was like, ‘Look, from now on, life is going to change. You need Sharon-Stone-the-movie-star clothes, and then you need your clothes.’ You need to start separating out your life so that you have a sane existence.”
Although she did learn how to manage fame slowly but steadily, Sharon Stone lost the custody of her son after she starred in Basic Instinct.

Starring in Basic Instinct and Basic Instinct 2, Sharon Stone indeed had some problems to deal with when the question of her son’s custody came into discussion. As per Stone, a judge had made judgemental remarks at Stone for starring in the movie which led to her losing custody.
“I lost custody of my child”. A judge had apparently asked her “tiny little tiny boy ‘do you know your mother makes s*x movies?’. I ended up in the Mayo Clinic with extra heartbeats in my upper and lower chamber of my heart,” she recounted. “It broke my heart.”
After the years took their toll, the actress is attached to an upcoming project titled What About Love which is speculated for a release date in 2024. As for the main movie in question, Basic Instinct is available to stream on Prime Video.
